I’m getting some kind of growth in my food storage bins. Looks like a very fine beige powder. I clean it out, keeps recurring. Any clue as to what is causing this??

It happens in either plastic trash cans and metal garbage cans.

I'd be concerned about some sort of insect eggs. How tight fitting are the lids? Do you pour the food directly in the containers, or are you able to keep the whole bag inside?
Whole bag is inside. I thought about eggs as well, but I see no insects at all.

I guess poop from moth larvae that feed on cereals.
The caterpillars are probably already in the feed. Not a problem, chickens love to eat those caterpillars.
Just make sure to clean the container and get rid of all the cocoon and pupae as soon as you finish the contaminated bag, or the infestation will pass to the next batch of feed.
