for a town which breed is best?

I need some well-behaved city chickens, too!

I know, I've always heard that too. Our's laid an average of five eggs a day with 7 hens. just common stock though, pure breeds might not lay as well?

Eh, that's not bad. Which hatchery? (Assuming that's what you meant by "common stock".)

Okay, why not game breeds?

American and Oriental Gamefowl for example are extremely quiet, they don't make the egg song at all, they're VERY friendly and loyal and tame towards people, and lay a decent amount of eggs.

We bought the ones we had at a local livestock swap / flea market, so I really don't know where they came from originally. I said common stock because they were too big to be bantams and too small for standards, a few had one toe less than they should on one foot, little stuff like that. They were pretty, just not breeder quality. I raised off them last year, then sold the rooster and was going to buy an unrelated rooster but couldn't find one. I kept them a year or so them sold them to a local BYC'er who had a rooster and was needing hens. They sure suprised me on how well they laid though! I miss them sometimes, but our egg customers prefer brown eggs and I just had too many other projects going. Besides, they went to a good home!

My Brabanters are pretty quiet. They are the smallest of all my hens, but lay the largest eggs. I got them from Ideal. They aren't show quality, but they are good for my backyard flock.

Then you need to educate her otherwise.

I really don't see why one should stray away from them except if they plan to have more than one rooster, plan to use them for meat, or . . . . I can't think of other reasons.

Maybe she just doesn't care for the look? They're not for everyone, certainly. I don't care for them, just for that reason. Hope they don't take it personal.
