For U.K. members, think again about using hardware cloth in coops.

I am not suprised! I am English, now living in the US. This has all happened due to having a social/liberal govt for so many years and agreeing to being bullied by the European Union. A liberal, socialist govt will take us down this road, as we are seeing already. I hate to talk politics but it is true.

You will have a hard time owning a firearm in England. They don't have the Second Amendment. Some of there police are not armed.

Only the bad guys own guns in England

ETA: Captain Carrot said pretty much what I set out to say...

Is it the laws for the safety of people visiting your property that are the issue here? Isn't it true that people in the us have been sued by burglurs who were harmed on their property? It's not about justice, it's about upholding the law even if it's unjust. If there's a law that says you can sue for damages (or something like that) if you are harmed by something "unsafe" on someone else's property, then those laws would apply even to a criminal.

Urban myth? I read your link and it doesn't dispute that the case happened, therefore, I wouldn't call it a myth. I still find it to be a ridiculous, frivolous lawsuit. Personal responsibility is another endangered species in this country.

All of these unnecessary suits makes everything more expensive for the consumer. And has led to more ridiculousness like this,

McDonald's "settled" but says it wasn't monetary.

I could probably build my coop for half the price if we could take off all the hidden costs associated with liability.

Personally, I feel the criminal loses his rights once he has committed the crime. If you weren't there to commit a crime, you wouldn't get hurt. But the wire mesh in the U.K. wasn't an unsafe condition. It simply covered holes like we do in chicken coops. It would only become dangerous once the criminal cuts it or damages it in another way to gain access. Therefore, the criminal has created the unsafe condition. Maybe the homeowner could sue the criminal for creating an unsafe condition in their shed.

Seriously????? That makes me blue but sadly not surprised in these strange times.

All we can do is look out for ourselves and our families and be as adaptable and self sufficient as possible. There's no savior named "government".

Therefore the criminal created the unsafe condition. Myaybe the homeowner could sue the criminal for creating an unsafe condition

Sounds like a plan to me

I think alot of blame lies in what happened during WWII American were called to help an ally and once there there was such a culture clash that things happened that neither country will forget. I remember a saying that went a little like this "Yanks are over payed, over sexed and over here" which most likely did not help. Brittain did do a fair job for the most part in colonizing and helping the non-modern world.
