Yep i am two miles from the border myself though not in the path of humanity. California laws are pretty restrictive WRT hand guns. Though out here in the county we can carry a gun on our own property. Even in town (not the city) in a holster visable to everyone but it has to be unloaded. Though I rarely see one.
My neighbor uses a Cap and Ball revolver to call his cats in. Pretty hilarious to be sitting in his living room have go to the window Loaded revolver in hand pointed up in the air and Holler.... "Here Kitty Kitty Kitty" If they dont come he fires the gun at a target.... (on my property)
hes a good shot though. Within five ten seconds those cats come scrambling up to the window and are in the house.
I would only use a gun to protect myself. Property can be replaced.
On a serious note...I do agree, I would only use them to protect myself or my family. We take guns very seriously down here and dont mess around about that. However, when people know there are about 10 guns in every household it is a good detterent. I know everyone doesn't agree with me on that and I respect that.
Many ranchers have been attacked by illegal immigrants from across the border lately, as you should know living in South Cali. We have pretty good protection here in Texas but I feel sorry for the Arizonans, they have alot of desert to cover.
Mexico is getting worse and worse. IMHO we need to bring our guys back from Afganistan and Iraq and maybe help out Mexico. They are now one of the most dangerous places in the world because of our drug consumption.
Sigh.... too true. I went home last weekend to work on my Chicken coop a little. When I was done and left to go have a hamburger at "The" restaurant, I passed some border patrol on the road. They were tracking and carrying automatic wepons. I have Never seen that before.
