Found 2 baby Canadian geese

Thanks Miss Lydia, I'm also not too sure why they didn't go under the tree like they normally did. Ming-Ming I think is currently missing Nala. He's been to the door several times as if he's looking for her. I feel so bad for him. He's laying on the dog pillow like Nala used to now. He still won't eat, but I'm still hopeful. He's coo'ing like he normally did, so I'm taking that as a good sign. Time will tell. I uploaded a video to Youtube to share, however it's still processing. I'll link it once it's complete.

This is Ming-Ming about 5 mins ago laying on the pillow like Nala used to.
I hope you can get him to drink especially since he probably was very dehydrated. I'm sure he is really going to miss her and will mourn for her. If you can get hold of some electrolytes and add to his water they would help. He looks so sweet.

He's been drinking off and on all day, just not eating. We took him outside for a bit and the only thing he did was walk around the house to where they were and then just sat there. I'm quite sure he's missing/mourning her. a few times while walking around the house he sorta called out and then would turn his head to the side, as if he were listening for her to call back. Today hasn't been that great and I can't help but to feel in some way responsible for this. I know I'm doing the right thing and that if I wouldn't have taken them home, they both would not have made it. I just wish I would have kept a better eye on them.

How is he doing this morning?

Sorry it's been so long since I've updated, work has been keeping me busy. The good news is Ming-Ming has made a full recovery and is doing exceptionally well. In fact, he's doing a bit too well. Anyone in the family that is within range he now runs over to and is VERY insistent about preening us. Now I know this is what they do and that it's a show of affection. But it's constant and we can't seem to break him of the habit. Myself, I usually don't mind it, in fact I usually find it rather cute. BUT, how do we train him to stop when we've had enough? I have two young daughters and when he does it to them, it hurts. I've tried rolling him on his back to show dominance, shushing him away, chasing him off, I've even tried hissing. NOTHING works! I've never in my life found an animal so dang persistent, lol. Does anyone have a good suggestion or a deterrent that they have found that works?

On another and even cuter note. Ming-Ming now follows when we go for our family walks at night. He stays just a few steps off to my side (he favors me the most) and will walk the entire block, never leaving our side. The neighbors get quite the kick out of watching us. Now if I could just get my dog to be so loyal, LOL.

He needs a companion, I know it's not what you want to hear but he is lonely and I feel his behavior will get worse and he'll end up biting so I'd be watching craigslist or other places for him a friend. Believe me when I say a lonely goose or gander especially won't know how to act properly with out another of their kind. Be very careful flipping him onto his back because I just learned that it can cause problems with internal organs. You might try a spray bottle of water or squirt gun but I still think he needs a friend. Relieved to hear he made complete recovery though I was sure he had died and that's why you hadn't posted. Great news he's okay now.

If he keeps trying to preen you and the family the best way is to grab his beak and firmly hold it closed and say NO. Do not hold too tight just enough for him to get the idea this is a NO NO.

I certainly understand your apprension in keeping the ducklings. I actually hatched an egg from a Canada female that was killed. Totally bonded with her and then found out just weeks later that it was against the law. Well guess what? I'm now a wildlife rehabber! I could not stand the thought of not being around these beautiful creatures. I have 4 Canada goslings that I'm rehabbing, legally! I've had domestic geese and ducks but they do not compare to these guys.

This is the goose I hatched 2 years ago. Even though she imprinted on us, she had enough influance from her own kind to fly away. I was sad but so glad that she knows she is a goose and can go out there and make goose babies. She comes back every now and then with her beau.
How nice!

I´ve just read through this thread, and I´m very curious to know how things are now....any up-date? Did you get a friend for him? Did you successfully become a rehabber, in which case you may have had many friends for him!!!!
