How much does she weigh? I once rescued a hen from slaughter she was about a month old and weighed about 5 pounds. She (Eleanor) passed away this past May. I take comfort in the fact that she got to be loved and live 8 months as a normal chicken. She even laid a couple eggs! Even if your rescued hen lives a couple of months, just know that you gave her a much better life being a normal chicken and being loved. Good luck.
Pictures below are of Eleanor. Before she passed she weighed 14 pounds and could still jump a couple inches to get a piece of lettuce out of my hand.

Did you check it for lice? we saved a chicken off the road before it is a Rhode Island Red. It was so riddled with lice that she couldn't lay or grow back any feathers. We treated her in the quarantine area. The chickens ran away from her at first cuz they could tell she was sick. maybe place her with them, if they run away u know for sure if she is. Its been 9 months and she is big happy and healthy. What does 'culling' mean? Also had to pull out her tongue before, she swallowed it.
Found her lying in the sunshine, took a pick from my window.

Culling is a polite word for euthanizing a chicken. We don't cull people, but we do cull chickens. I didn't know this word until a few months ago myself.

View attachment 1176726 Here is a natural might killer. It kills 100% of nights over a 24 hour period. I use it on my girls practically every week. I spray them under their wings and by their vents. I dust their bedding and nest boxes with sevin dust.
Oh, thank you for the reminder! I just read this post of hers on garlic juice and mites a few days ago. It's an awesome treatment to add to the chicken (and people) medicine kit for sure.
