Hello,

So I found this little black chicken wandering around outside Walmart. I saw her in the middle of a busy street so I was afraid she was going to get run over. After 15 minutes of chasing her with my friend and getting many dirty looks from drivers, we finally caught her. Now that we have her she is very tame and likes to be pet. I have never owned a pet chicken in my life.
I fed her some of my cockatiel's bird seed, which she ate with no problem. I also gave her water.

In the mean time, what should I do for her sleeping arrangements? Should I put her in my dog's old cage? Any tips?

Thank you!

Welcome to the world of chicken keeping. Yes, you may use your dog's old cage. Just make sure she's safe from predators. Next, get a container for water, and feed. The bird seed was fine to begin with, but won't meet her nutritional needs. Are you sure it's a she? Go to the feed store, and get a big bag of Egg Maker type feed. It's not too expensive.

In addition to the bird seed, get some boiled egg into it as well. And make so grit is available. Bird looks like crap so will take some loving to get back into good weight. Others more familiar with frizzles need to be consulted as well.

Kaleigh - that is called a Moppet Chicken. Often used in chicken coops to keep the roosting bars and floor clean and dust free. j/k :D

I don't know what kind he/she is, someone will let us know I'm sure. It is (I think) some kind of "frizzle", but I have never had one - but would love to!!

Thanks for sharing :)

To me your chick doesn't look that old. Watch the amount of water you put in a dish so the chick don't drown in the water. Get a water container for the chick when you get feed.
