Found an injured Pigeon

Two days ago, there was a pigeon limping alongside the road, I pulled over to watch it. Soon it was knocked into the centre of the road and cars were driving over the top of it, (missing him just). I stopped a car, (and received rolling eyes from the driver) so I could pick him up.

He seems really calm and just wants to sleep, even when I pick him up, he'll close his eyes. I don't think his wings or feet are broken because he doesn't seem in pain and he can flap his wings and hobble along (although he'd rather not), he seems really weak.

He's a nice looking pigeon, (well I think so) and I found out he's a racing one. Using the tags on his feet I have contacted the owner but they have not yet got back to me.
On the first day, I saw him eat (not much) and takes a few sips of water. However, today I have only seen him drink twice (if I don't get him out of the cage and hold the water beneath him he wont have any) and he refuses to eat any more food. The website recommended uncooked rice and I gave him some corn which we use for the chickens.
Does anyone have any idea what could be wrong with him? I don't believe anything is broken as he doesn't seem in pain. Could he just be really tired? I have no idea where he started flying from as the owners haven't got back to me so maybe he just needs rest? His tags tell me he was born this year so he's a young bird. Also, any ideas of what else to try feeding to him?

The way he's fluffed up could mean that he's sick. Make sure to keep him separated from your poultry and wash your hands between caring for him and your others.

Pigeons drink by submerging their entire beak into water, so give him some water in a dish that is deep enough. A chick waterer won't let him drink enough.

For food, I wouldn't give grain, especially if he's sick. Some chicken crumbles would be a better diet for him if that's what you have on hand. The ideal feed is pigeon food, of course, but if you are just trying to get him well, the chicken crumble will work.

I notice that in the background it looks like you have hay for bedding. The best thing to use is actually towels

For a pigeon, the hay won't make a difference since he can't eat it anyways. For a chicken, hay is not the best choice since they could get an impacted crop if they eat it and can't digest it.

thank you for the replies. I had given him a water dish which was deep enough for him to drink from (atleast 2.5cm I found out it needed to be). I don't have 'chicken crumble' is this a type of feed? I use layers pellets constantly, is that OK for the chickens? I tried crumbling these pellets up and he wouldn't eat them, however he's not eating anything now and looks even worse so I'm worried. ):
I have since changed the bedding to tea towels. He's struggling to stay balanced at the moment, he keeps falling forward and tripping up.

Oh hay isn't good for chickens? It's straw though if that makes any difference? I use it in the nesting area and have never seen them eat it.

The straw should be fins, it will keep him off his poo. What does his weight feel like, if you feel his chest is it boney? He might need worming or he might need an antibiotic. If he feels a decent weight and if you have any amoxicillian, penicillin, clendamyician (sp?) for people, animals etc..... you can try to dissolve one in water and give to him. Also any poultry vitamins you could put in his water or a little sugar or gator aid for energy in a pinch.
