I am terribly upset from finding pieces of our favorite hen Tweety a couple hours ago. Nothing but her wings are left after an extensive search..she has been m.i.a. for 3 days.
A total free range pullet who had a 99.9% fertile egg rate. We have hatched countless offspring from this gentle pet hen.
We could call her or tap the feed wagon and she would be hopping up and on your arm like a parrot.
I found her under our deck tonight, or what is left of her.
Bob has put a large live trap at the edge of the deck opening. He put her wings in it and slice of cheese waded in a ball of bread.
I gave bob permission to use extreme predigest to what gets entrapped tonight,
Rest in peace tweety bird.

IMG_2793.JPG I'm sorry for her tragic demise and know she'll be always remembered and always missed. Every so often a really special hen comes along. RIP Tweety.

One special one for me was Hayley, pic here. Hayley lived a long life though, but still her passing was sad. I buried her in the peony bed.

Take care and keep loving!

Nothing ever eats the terrible chickens, my condolences Farmer Connie.

My old chicken raising partner (he passed in 1972) once said that vermin never kill a hen without first checking to see if it is wing or leg banded, the idea being that the chicken assine wished to kill nothing but your very best.
