Thank you cause that means a lot when I am so down about the high #'s right now. Having dpn makes it a lot harder to get up and excercise when it hurts. I am overwieght and need to loose but it's a battle. Thanks for listening to me ramble.
Here is an interesting article about exercise.... The Scientist and the Stairmaster
Why most of us believe that exercise makes us thinnerand why we're wrong. http://nymag.com/news/sports/38001/
The reason I post it is not to turn people away from it, but to show weight loss without exercise is possible. I exercise for MANY reasons...increased flexibility, good brain chemicals, to get me outside for more vitamind D, to be with friends...weight loss just isn't one of the reasons.
Thanks for the info about fitday. That looks like it would be helpful. Things are going pretty well today. Went to the grocery store and got lots of salad fixin's and such. Got some different kinds of nuts also. I like those for a quick snack. Looks like this has turned into a helpful thread for lots of people. I'm glad.
Since the diagnosis of diabetes and kind of along with it, I also was told I need a D&C because of post menopausal bleeding, which I have discovered during all this could be caused by being overweight and the diabetes. Anyway, I had the procedure today and am doing well. I got back home about 1:00 in the afternoon and slept most of the afternoon away, but feel fine now. I ate a topless hamburger and that was good and some tea. That is all I have had today. Prior to the surgery, when I weighed this morning, I have lost 6 pounds for the first two weeks of my diet. So not too bad.
I've only lost four lbs after two weeks on this diet and boy, it was a struggle. Fell off and got back on and fell off again and got back on again. I'm just determined!
However been sick and sucked on some cough drops which does have sugar but it was not the time to be sick! I'm all right now and I have to tell hubby to quit giving me those weak smoothies from DQ!
I love my topless burgers, either to broil them under the oven or grill them! Plenty of veggies on the side. I used to have pork n beans but they are too high in carbo unless I eat them directly out of the can! I thought beans are good source of proteins!
I'm sorry to hear that. But the bright side is that you have a chance now to change your diet and become very healthy. My mother is a diabetic educator. So, prevention is constantly being drilled into my brain. The best diet (for everyone) is vegetables (dark green leafy veggies have a great amount of nutrition), fruit (don't go overboard), and whole grains, nothing processed and no meat, or store bought animal products (they all have terrible stuff in them.) I know that some argue that meat essential, but it is not. You can get plenty of protien from the proper mix of grains or eggs from your chickens (just don't go overboard on yolks.)
Here are a few suggestions. Oatmeal is incredibly nutritous (not instant), just get bulk whole grain oats, quinoa, a little brown rice, raisins, cranberries, almonds (never eat more than a small handful a day), anything else you want to put in it, and cook it up in a big pot. I doesn't sound to tasty but trust me it is so good. I put fresh fruit and soy milk on top of it after it is heated up. When making salad, use the darkest lettuce you can find, I like to mix different types. I like to put a little of every vegetable on salads to make sure I get the best variety of nutrients. Drink a lot of water every day, it helps fill your stomach too.
So, that is my opinion of the best diet. If you have any trouble, there are a lot of people on here that would be happy to give you support. I have a VERY addictive personality. I eat terrible foods when I am bored or depressed. When I develop an addiction to some sort of food that I shouldn't be eating, the best thing I can do is distract myself so that I don't obsess about it. Recently I have got myself addicted to knitting and crocheting. I get so excited about it, I forget about food. I have also become interested in playing the gutair.
Just some suggestions. Let us know how everything goes and if you have trouble, come on here and ask for support

There is nothing wrong with carbs from a small amount 100% whole wheat bread or pasta. You need good carbs. It is white flour that is very unhealthful. But beware of labels, it has to say 100% whole wheat. I don't know how it is legal but they can claim it is whole wheat when it is not.
