Four colors of Starlight Green Eggers

These are my 2 starlight green eggers that I picked up 3 days ago from TSC, so they are probably about a week old now, or getting close. They are both so cute, but I'm so in love with the dark one. They were labeled pullets so hopefully they both are. We are only keeping one and giving the other to a friend but it's so hard to choose. The light one is crazy active, and we have 2 jersey giants with them who are way calm, so the contrast is sharp lol. I'll update every few weeks.
Both of yours look similar to a couple of ours. Our two like your lighter one are the ones that ended up with a poof on top of their heads.
Our lightest and darkest ones have always been very calm. The two tan ones with the poofs have always been very active and the hardest to catch. They're very flighty and vocal.
Our darkest one has been our favorite and seems to have the most unique coloring of the 4. She was similar to your dark one but her face wasn't completely dark.

Hi All, I want to start a thread for our Starlight Green Eggers to post pictures of their growth. I have found a few threads with pictures similar to ours and what they look like grown but didn't see all the colors we have. Wanted to put pictures of these "hopefully girls" as they grow in case anyone is looking for pictures like I was. There's not too many pictures of them out there growing up and grown, and I can't find hardly any rooster pictures.

The two darker ones are friendly and the two lighter ones are not. I have a suspicion that the medium colored one is a roo...time will tell. I hope not but if so at least it's one of the friendly ones.

I had never heard of these until we saw them at Tractor Supply but decided to get them so we could have some colored eggs in the mix.
Here's my only SGE! She's so nice 😻 Her name is Sweet Pea. She is about 5 weeks old. I can't wait to see her beautiful eggs. I Love her!!

Well, I picked her up this morning and it must’ve just been the photo that my friend sent because she does have the Darker brown striping like the Starlights. I always see that are yellow.
I had one that was all yellow no striping that turned out to be a leghorn. (TSC is weird). But I had one that was also yellow with a brown back (like yours above but more solid across the whole back between the wings) that turned out to be like a mottled light brown and white like an isa brown- see pics!

Adding photos of my SGE too! It is bird #3 in all pics. It is the most flighty and skittish out of my five chicks. Currently has a beautiful copper coloring on its neck with black and gold wing feathers.

Right? All my birds are either TSC or Cackle 🤷 My Australorps have a fantastic temperament, but there's still a couple that come over to be petted or tolerate being held more than others. The Welsummers too, there's a couple that are always first to get picked up, and a couple that are always hardest to catch! Lol. I have two SLWs this year, and the one who looks seriously 'pet quality' is SO FRIENDLY AND SWEET! But her sister who has much better lacing and tail shape for the breed is actually the hardest to catch of the bunch. 🤷 But you see how if you are selecting for one thing (egg color, productivity) the breed may suffer in other areas (temperament etc). There are other heritage breeds I want to try for various reasons, including temperament (Dominiques, Buckeyes, Sussex etc) and others I would be more interested in based on egg color (Marans, Legbars, Andalusian etc) and it will remain to be seen how the egg color and temperament, or ease of handling, grid may square off.

ETA and I say "suffer" loosely bc obviously for any given characteristic, i.e. flightiness, that could be an asset for someone with different preferences or style of flock management.
Those flighty and aloof birds/breeds are often the best at evading predators. So if free ranging capability is your goal, those are a good pick.

For birds that are kept confined all the time, even in a spacious run, those breeds can get a little crazy and need more space than others.

If you want a pet chicken from the flighty / aloof breeds, you'll really have to work for it, and even then, it will depend on the individual.

@GPican I think your pale chick may feather out like my Peep, here in the bottom rung! She's just the prettiest lil thing, IMHO 😍

Sorry the lighting is kind of dark from the smoke in the air today. :(

I also have a straight up RED chick, but the jury is still out if she's really an SGE or just a RIR who jumped the bin lol so I don't have her pictured here.
Oh my!!! She is beautiful!! I certainly hope mine looks like this!! Ty for sharing!!!!

Progress report. My little starlight that I posted twice before is now 11 weeks here she is today as well as a recap of her earlier pics I posted.
