fowl pox, pecking or other?

she seems thin too. i can feel her breast bone. those things under her eye are hard and scabby. the other eye doesn't seem to be effected.

I'm bumping myself. I went out after dark and checked the other birds. My roo that i took a t recent show has a few scabs on his comb and his com is flaky.

I'd get some ointment for athlete's feet and lightly coat the comb..
could be some Favus going there..(fungal infection)

I think the eye's need watched..could be peck marks..

some terramycin eye ointment..or if not right in the eye or too close..regular antibiotic ointment, such as neosporin..not with any "caine" in it..or for pain..just plain neosporin..

you say he's thin...
has he been wormed? if so, when? and what was used?
has he been treated for mites/lice?
how old is he?
what all do you feed?
do you have another rooster?
how many chickens do you have with him?

have you done a good check of his crop?
it would be a good idea to use a small flashlight and check his mouth and throat for any whitish or yellowish sores or plaque, or sour smell..

describe the droppings in detail..color and consistency..

does he have a good appetite? is he drinking?
any other symptoms... such as wheezing?sneezing, shaking head?

watch closely..roos are famous for hiding illness until it's severe.

He's my only roo


She eats DUmor layer and some scratch we throw out every other day mixed w/blk sun flower seeds. left over veggies
Dumor grower and the same scratch and some cat food every once in a while

I use DE in the coops for mites and check them monthly for mites no sign of mites.

no head shaking, and both when let out in the late afternoon seem to have normal behavior.



I'll have to check on the other stuff tomorrow. But I'll def start the antifungal and ointment 1st thing in the morning.

Dry pox went thru my flock a couple weeks ago. It was not a big deal except 3 had wet pox. That was a big deal! Since it's a virus there isn't much you can do. Just keep an eye on em. The lesions can become infected so if you notice them scratching apply iodine. Make sure they are eating and drinking ok and if you notice respiratory problems developing consider antibiotics. I medicated the 3 with wet pox with Tylan for 5 days and saw significant improvement after just one day.

Doubtful you got it from the show, unless it was bitten by an infected mosquito there..putting iodine on the scabs and looking out for secondary infections is all you can do..You can vaccinate all others though to stop any farther outbreaks..
