FOX almost got my babies!

I don't know if it's hard to install thankfully I don't have fox issues if the dog can be out there with them with out wanting to see what they (chickens) taste like then ya it might make a fox think twice. As for shooting it with a bb/pellet it would be kinder to just kill it out right as the possible infection from a bb/pellet might make it a slow painful death.

Oh, yes. I think so.
The pellet gun worked.

One of the best ways to know he won't come back,
is he/she will screech out.

Trust me, if you hit it right, not only will it not come back from being scared, he might die. :yesss:

P.S Even if it doesn't work, trying won't hurt.

not trying to start any arguments but please to the op, either shoot it with a low power to give it a scare, or out right shoot to kill it with a high powered gun and right shot placement, (also make sure you can legally kill it, where i live foxes are fur bearer animals and you need a trappers licence to kill one in season) but hate for some one to get in more trouble over shooting a fox (which you should have the right to defend your live stock) but again am not sure what laws the OP has where they live.

@mueri07, I'm happy to hear that all of your chickens are still with you. I understand where you are coming from and would want to do anything to protect my flock. But before you do anything make sure you know all of the laws. In some states and/or cities it is illegal to trap and relocate animals. I know in the city I live in it is illegal to discharge any type of firearm, we can't even discharge a pellet gun or BB gun! Just want you to be safe from the law while keeping your chickens safe from the fox! You should be able to look up your city ordinances online. You could always call a critter remover also. Good luck!

I agree with 6mothercluckers on calling a animal remover service as they normally are humane with the animals. Also I want to say even if you hate foxes which I understand I don't think encouraging to cause pain and suffering is right and it can get you in trouble as it can be seen as cruelty to animals in some places which can carry fines and even jail time. Like 6mothercluckers said look into local laws and what not regarding what you can and can't do. I also want to encourage you to try methods of deterring foxes and other animals before you go shooting them out right or even shooting them with bb's or pellets as a way to deter them. like I said a infection from a bb or pellet can cause pain and suffering an in cases a slow painful death which is quite frankly is not right.

I spoke with animal control last night and they stated I could box trap it and than call them to have them re-locate the little devil. He didn't come around last night, the chicks did stay cooped up tho as it rained all day so maybe a good thing. I have some left over fireworks that I could use that maybe could scare him a way if he gets to close again. For now im gonna look into the trapping idea. Im not trying to have the police come to my house. I appreciate all of help and great ideas. BYC 4LIFE!:woot

Becareful setting off fireworks as you just may have cops over for a peace disturbance or whatever it's called. That and if you have any neighbours you might not be too uh popular setting them off depending on the time. Please look into getting or building a covered walk in run for your chicks helps in wet weather to.

I see from the pic, you have a fence of some kind around the coop. A fox can go over a 6' foot fence, like it isn't even there. And if the fence has a roof, and he can't get through it, they can darn near outdig a groundhog. Some people go with a hardware clothe surrounding cage. That can get expensive. You could run a hotwire around the outside of the fence, about a foot off the ground. Fox comes up, takes a sniff of the strange wire, and gets a 8000V snootful. He won't come back for a second try. You can do that kinda cheaply.

Like I posted earlier, I have the poultry net. In the winter, we get a few inches on the ground, unless I clear the whole fence line, the fence will be grounded out, no sparky. But, the wildlife around here wants no part of it. They won't even approach it. I've seen them go through the property and give that fence a wide berth.
