Fox attack? :(

Thanks guys! he hasnt rested his neck under his wing yet and he seemed pretty sore this morning, i hope the flies dont get him...i a tad worried but ill give him a good wash when i get home.

Okay so when i got back home he looked great. he was quacking and everything and i checked his wounds to make sure there were no maggots or flies etc but i am a bit suspicious so i doused his wounds in saline and rubbed it in just to make sure. hes having a little bath now but his neck is still very sore. :)

I'm sure it's going to take a while for the soreness to completely go away. I'm glad to hear he's doing so well, just keep an eye on his wounds especially if they are still open.

I haven't seen anything on here about Bubby (I hope I got his name correct )
for over a day now so how is he recovering let us know when he gets his
bill under his wing as this will be telling us all he is recovering just fine ...

UPDATE: Bubby looked really healthy running around, using his neck etc.

Today i found another wound whilst checking him over and it was completely infested with maggots. there was one opposite that side too. i am so stupid how could i miss it. well i used some disinfectant and saline to kill the maggots and we scooped them all out and i had a good check of everywhere else on his body too it was only those two spots. there is a big hole on one side that has a bit of rot and a little one on the other side. i am so stupid i cant believe i so carelessly over looked them. we are going to book into the vet to stitch up the holes and make sure its okay.

ANY ADVICE WOULD BE HELPFUL!!!

we wont be seeing the vet maybe until tomorrow or the day after that so anything to help now would be great!
anyway of repelling maggots, flies, etc is also welcome thank you

Wow maggots, the maggots probably helped Bubby as maggots only eat dead flesh
and really do help to slow down gangrene from setting in as quickly but if you put him
in a small tub with clean water and let him bath himself for several hours and nothing
to deep six inches or 150 mm deep depending on what system or part of the world
you live in and no soap or medicine in the water as he will ingest it and all you need
or are trying to do is help him get clean and I believe you said you are putting him in
with the pigeon's see if you might be able to house him somewhere else for the time
being till he is back to himself .... And a water bird should always have something
like a pond to clean in and just a little shallow mortar mixing pan from a hard ware
store works just fine just change the water daily .......

yea we have a little bath for him outside but we also hosed him down really well. at the moment we have wrapped him up in some towels to warm him up and dry him. he is a little annoyed but this should also prevent flies from coming to him etc. thanks for the advice!!

Go do some searching on the Natural chicken Keeping Thread, I think it is Delisha who has successfully used some alternative treatments for maggots. Maggots = a very poor situation, you def want to get a handle on that and very quickly.

I don't know what to say. I don't want to sound punishing, but I asked you as clearly as I could to keep him inside so this would not happen.

It may not be the end of Bubby's life, I hope, but this has just become much much more serious.

I would not use turpentine, as the link Miss Lydia provided suggests, but that is my preference, she is experienced and knowledgeable.

Take a look at this. Read it. Do something about the fly strike now. https://www.backyardchickens.com/t/822173/fly-strike-picture-of-wound-progression-of-healing

Epsom salts will be much less likely to cause problems than a petroleum product. Get a syringe - not the needle part, the pump part. Fill it with Epsom salt solution or saline solution. If you can get Vetericyn, get it. While Bubby is floating in a tub of lukewarm water, gently, thoroughly spray and wipe the maggots out. This will take a long time. Do it.

Bubby's life is at stake. You can help if you will. It is your responsibility.
