What can I do to get rid of this problem? has wiped out 20 of my girls over the past week in the day time. I am down to 4. 😭

I vote for shooting it too.

Sorry for your loss.

Gosh, eating that many hens in a week makes me think she may have babies. I would get a secure run set up and .make sure its 1000% predator proof because if I'm right, soon she wont be the only one showing up.

IMHO your first responsibility is to predator-proof your setup. We've had foxes moving around for years, close to my free-ranging chickens (daylight roaming does not always equal disease...) but I have 5' no-climb fencing, field fence aprons attached to the bottom of the fence, and electric tape & wire along either top and/or bottom all around. Is my barnyard predator-proof? Only time will tell, but I've been fortunate with this setup for a few years now.

Shooting one fox won't keep others away. Focus efforts on your facilities.

Fox or coyote??? Coyotes hunt in packs and don't have the smell. We had a loss of 3 at once (day time) the same day you wrote this. We were home and heard the dog bark saving the rest. I have the flock locked up for now. We will be letting them out for a few hours in the afternoons next week. Unfortunately it will probably take longer than that for the coyotes to move on.
