Free range time

I live in the city (free from hawks or any other predators). During summer, I leave the coop door open so they can get out whenever they want. If the sun rises at 5:00 am, they get free range from 5:00 am. I know this sounds dangerous but I've been doing this for about a year and so far nothing has gone wrong. There is no such thing as too much free ranging.

I free range from 7 am till dusk most of the year. I just keep the run door open so they can come & go from coop/run as they want. It does increase the risk for predator attacks but we have been pretty fortunate. Best of luck with your flock
