I can guarantee that some are laying..they just arent laying IN the coop...you need to keep them locked up in the coop for a week or more so they can get used to laying IN the coop. Good luck!

they very well could be laying. why not keep the locked in the coop for 3-4 days and see? it really cant hurt and you may be surprised. also are you giving them light? do you hear the egg song from them, do they free range all day anywhere, and if so do you ever see them going into the coop? if not I think they are laying elsewhere.

How much light are you giving them? What type of coop do you have? My POL 9 month old hens are starting to lay now.

My girls hatched out in early March and only 2 are laying - and they just started last week. Give them some time!

I had to tell some of my girls "either you make me breakfast, or I'll make ya dinner."


I'am getting about 15 eggs daily from 19 hens now.

Better to being with: What am I doing wrong in this situation?

Feed: are the hens getting what they need to lay, daily?

Light: are the hens getting the proper amount of light, daily?

Water: are the hens getting the amount of clean water needed, daily?

Nesting Boxes: are the hens living arrangements set up so they will lay in boxes that you can see/reach into and get eggs out of easily?

Weather/living conditions: Are the hens healthy enough to lay? Are their combs full and red? If so, are the hens free ranging and laying eggs helter skelter?

As a caretaker of animals, we often set ourselves and animals up to fail and it is up to us to remedy the situation.

Leave the lights on 24 hours for a few days, I think thats what finally kicked mine into gear, some were 7 months old.

Chicken George you have managed to create a firestorm here. LOL. You know as well as the rest of us (you have had chickens before) that these birds are on the edge of laying at this age. I have a bunch 18 RIR that started at about 36 weeks. When theys started they rolled.

If you want to process 25 $20.00 pullets that is of course your choice but you can buy a lot of chicken with that money. Late starters is what you got there. The next bunch may take just as long.

Why is everyone giving poor George a hard time? The birds are walking food machines, if you can't get eggs, you might as well get meat!

My girls didn't lay until 26 weeks, so not as bad as you, but I was plenty frustrated. Following a local's advice, I do, I guess 17 hours of daylight? In the morning and at night. I feed 20% layer pellets, and they also have 15% mash leftover they eat out of the autofeeder. I also gave them rooster and rice..hehe. That started the two that stopped for a couple weeks right up. Now they get meat & wheat or rice nearly every day.
