Okay! It's agreed! We're going to do a reverse intervention for Deb! Instead of trying to halt an addiction we're going to help her create one! I'm all in!

Ahem, appreciate the uh...gung ho-edness, but I reeeeeaaaaalllllly don't need another addiction.

We continue to use the garden hose throughout the winter. We just drain the hose completely after every use using a hook on the side of the building.

OFW, your garden hose doesn't freeze & bust in winter?

We drain it so there is nothing to freeze. It is alot more work, but (especially for the cows) it is the only way to get water to them. You finish watering the animals place your hose on a high hook and run the hose through the hook. All the water drains out, nothing to freeze.
The hydrants will freeze, those require a blowtorch.

Yes, forced air and egg turner. I've been thinking about doing something similar, too. Jophus wasn't too impressed with the Incuview turner. Hey, can you set duck and chicken eggs together and then separate them at lockdown ?

I've set ducks and chicks together. I set the ducks 7 days earlier so they were due at the same time, but I probably won't do it again. Either stagger or just do separate sets. Really depends on the type of eggs, if you think they will handle the same humidity settings.

Yep mine make a mess, too. I put a plastic tray under the waterer and put shavings in it so they wouldn't soak the whole floor.

I find they make less mess with hanging waterers and feeders And the least messy feeders are the ones with the lip on the tray around the bottom, they can't scratch it out as easily.

Hatched on its own? Bill looks a little long for yours but she's beautiful. Possible snowy?

Going to be a busy day for you! Good luck with the rest of those little cuties.
You quack me up. :hugs
I finally slept for 6 straight hours. Guess my body finally said stop. I hope the pain pill did it for you!

No snowy possible... hers range in size, my biggest drake is from her, but so is my smallest, lol... colors are silver (lavender) pied, blue pied, silver apricot, white, grey pied and pastel...

Gooood morning all.

My hatch is over 14 of 15!! :yiipchick :weee

Last lavender hatched overnight.

:highfive:
About dang time! :gig

Just think how much fun you'll have til you go back to work! It could be you new career! I think WV has eggs in the oven 24-7, 365!

Hey!! I resemble that remark!! :gig

I am most shocked at how well they did in the FI. I think I'll hatch in it, even when the Brinsea doesn't have extra eggs in it. Was much easier viewing, but I still prefer the Brinsea for incubating and turning.

Now I know what to send Deb for Christmas. :D

ETA - better yet, her birthday. It comes sooner :)

I say we all chip in... ;)

Hey all.  I'm still sick and miserable so you won't see much of me today.

I have a total of 167 chicks and poults either on the ground or in the bator or hatcher.  If I set any more this season, it will be small batches of special eggs.

I finished my two story brooder yesterday.  It should hold 150 chicks on one level for the first week, then 75 on each level through 4 weeks, when they graduate to the floor.  I ordered some FlexWatt to build a hover, but that will be added later as I am about to embark on travel.  What I do need is to find a design for chick feeders that can hold a lot and not allow them to scratch it out, and that is near floor level so the littlest ones can reach it.  I need to be able to put in at least 5 pounds of starter crumbles for constant dispensing, and room for at least 30 chicks to eat at once.  Any suggestions?

A 5 or 2 gal bucket w/lots of elbows...

First fluffed up silver. 3 more drying off in the bator and some more internally pipped.

Yay!!! Gorgeous chick! :)

I got a message from Turk. She got a new phone and is having BYC issues with it, so she said she would check in as soon as she can. Her duck hatch is progressing! 4 of 8 hatched so far. :fl

Awesome for Turk!!!

But :plbb to her phone...

Amazing hatch! Whoop whoop!!!

@RavynFallen does this look like the start of a curly feather??

Nope... and waaay too early to tell by drake feather... those won't come in until their second set of feathers... in a couple more weeks the girls should start quacking and boys will go raspy...
