French frogs

Great info, thanks.  A friend just hatched 6 of my girls' eggs this past weekend, so we're anxiously waiting to see how the colors turn out.

Oh, I forgot Wheaten too, lol... and that's why I was positive Walnut's trans/confused cockerel/pullet was a boy... hers had a duckwing based pattern...

Are those all SDW, or the mix girls too?

The 4 that I hatched were all pure SDW... I collected the eggs before I got the mixes. The ones my friend just hatched included some of the mixed girls too.

Now I can't tell the stupid eggs apart. I get one egg that is a bit darker, and smoother, but the other 4 look identical.

I may have to do some vent coloring.

Oh, I know you're packed to the gills right now... just want to make sure you don't hesitate to holler when you can take more... :D

Sorry it's been so long y'all, busy busy...

Did some record updating after Saturdays hatch and :th ...bird count is at an all time high. You see I trick myself regularly by not adding the numbers of the individual pens very often  128!!!

So after we got 80.4% on the hatch, 37 total, 19 CM, 9 EE, 7 Bresse, 2 black Isbars, We played musical coops... And discovered a third hen fell to the broody hormone, gave her eggs.

Candled the call duck eggs, 11 currently go on developing :fl :fl :fl

Lastly Made plans to have some beautiful silkies shipped here soon!

Yeah, I totally didn't think of that when you asked about getting them! :gig

I do my counts by small groups... I refuse to add the groups together on the grounds I might incriminate myself... :gig

Glad the Calls are doing well!! :fl Good luck on the Silkies...

So we have had an injury :/ one of my 4 week old chicks has a fairly serious leg break. Not completely sure how it happened, maybe stepped on? Or got caught in the fencing? Regardless it is one of the faster growing crosses. Thinking I am going to design a sling from a sock (it will probably work for a week) with food and water access and let it grow a few more weeks and then process him early. :/

It could be septic and kill it, dont think it has a long time.

If the skin is not broken that should not be a risk, but it's hard to stabilize a femur. Much harder than a shank. But if it's not a broad breasted bird it may do okay for a couple of weeks. If it settles to the ground and doesn't get up, it's time to cull.

It was busy. Got to see my folks. My mom found a recorded conversation of my grandfather and grandmother from 1975! It was so bitter sweet! Made me miss them all over again!

Aww, that's sweet.

I was so happy when I saw those little peachy feathers! Was hoping I wasn't imagining it late last week, but its like they bloomed overnight!

No broken skin. I checked thoroughly at first afraid it was an injury from excessive bullying (I just combined the chicks the other night) but no visible sign of injury (except the obvious leg turned backwards). He is still with his flockmates, still eats, drinks, they accept him into their huddle. I will separate him tonight and get a sling made up and try to make him comfortable. Coop cleaning at the moment and need to clean his new space out.

So this is how i set him up. You can see his broken leg. I watched him eat, but he would not drink while i was sitting there. He started drifting to sleep when i left. Hopefully he starts drinking. I set a mirror in thete to keep him entertained. And will weigh him with his flockmates come Wednsday so if he does not continue gaining healthfully i will know. This wont last long, if everything seems to go well for him i will sew one up using an old pair of jeans.
