French frogs

Nothing wrong with Legbar production, just have to choose your line carefully... ours lay really well and large eggs... I just don't care for them... never have been a fan of their look and they're personalities are just not what I like... too much hassle, so they're next up on the block for us...

I only have one left, and she's next on the cull list, too. Started a rampage of feather picking and all the other chickens look like heck. Think I'll put the bumpa bit on her for a while if I can find it.

The two halfloff girls of hers are growing up so cute though, so If I cull her there will be no chance of hatching out any more. Of course, next Spring she'll be 4, so not sure future chicks is a good reason to keep her long-term.

Sounds like you and Bert need to swap weather patterns, Phil...
Well they cancelled the tornado warning... It would have been strange because there's only been one in the u.p. that I remember and it was decades ago in Escanaba
One gate done, two to go: Before: After; We have had almost no rain all Spring. Hope we get a good monsoon season this summer, we sure could use some rain. 84 degrees, 10% humidity, nice breeze. Cool in the shade, really hot in the sun.
Nice job Friday...

Kinda, but I didn't put as much time into them as I have others... mostly its a 'I respect yiur space, and you respect mine' attitude... roo is great, never aggressive, but very watchful and protective of his girls...
what line are your birds from, if you don't mind me asking?

that would seem odd to here about a tornado up your way....

I'd offer eggs, but have 2 broodys that refuse to break and fertility has been low this year... plus I was supposed to send eggs to chicapee...

Mine are a mix of A, B, C, and D... yes, there was a D, just isn't well known... no Rees blood at all... the guy who originally mixed these lines together did a good job... a lady got stock from him and proceeded to 'propagate' them... I got lucky and got some early before she bred them into ruin...

Good to hear, stay safe

Hi everyone.

So I've got a question. About 2-3 weeks ago I had a 3 year old hen up and die on me. Didn't think anything of it, as she was an older hen. Today I had a 10 month old hen found dead in the coop.

Not sure what is getting them. I have noticed some looser poop in the coop, but have not noticed any other symptoms. What do I look for both on the chicken that died today and around the coop to try to identify the cause of death?

Do a thorough health check of your flock... check weights, see if any feel light, extra bony, prominent keel, etc... any standing around fluffed up, lethargic, listless, or just inactive... listen to breathing for rattles or rales... look at eyes for bubbles, discharge or anything off... nares runny or not... sneezing... check all poops for excessive runniness, blood (looks tarry usually unless fresh), foaminess, yellow mustard color, worms, etc...
