Hi Deerman - I missed this post originally. Wow, you have a good eye or really know peafowl, or both. I ordered the variety pack so there is one of every color but I don't know which is which. Which one is the Blackshoulder in my pics?
As I've posted, I'm impressed with the Leggs Peafowl guys, Brandon and Brad. They've not only stayed in touch and been very helpful - they sent me a variety package that should have been much more expensive but only charged the lowest rate that they charge for the less expensive birds. I had been e-mailing them and asking if they still had peachicks available and they had let me know that they would have some in a few weeks but didn't know what they would have. Then I got a call on July 8th to say they had some of the more expensive variety hatch that morning and they like to ship them same day so if I wanted them instead of the cheaper package, they would send them that day at same price. Really nice guys. Only problem with having a variety is I won't have a breader pair. But the man who has the feed store near here is wanting to sell his birds and I'm going to buy a pair of adult breeders from him. He has all types so I need to go look them over and see which ones I want.
You can breed the ones you have together. Crossing colors is ok its not mixing breeds.
The one fanning is a blackshoulder. Blackshoulder start out yellow, getting darker the hens will stay ligther, peacock will get darker until 2 yr. and look like a blue with blackshoulder.
Brad found 2 of the new colors. He wing band most of his birds.
Some of the colors and pattern are worth alot of money. Charcoals sell for around 900.00 for peachicks.(males) Charcoal hens do NOT lay eggs. You have a opal one of the newer colors.
I have over 70 breeders, Brad has hundreds. If you need help on the colors and how to mate them. Post some pics. Be glad to help.
Peafowl need to be 2yr. old to breed.
