This is the first time hatching on my own via incubator (without the help of my farming mama), and I've got questions. We are on day 21 and one of the newly hatched chicks is having trouble standing up. It is around 5 or 6 hours hatched. From what I've researched it doesn't look like spraddle legs, but rather its little feet don't seem to be able to unfold. Like they are curled under and the toes won't extend. Is this normal...will it eventually correct and be able to stand? I feel so bad for it flopping around in the incubator, trying to stand and not being able to. Input welcome!

i had one hatch with that same problem once. it took a while maybe 8-10 hours after hatch for it to walk normal. it is fine now and one of my biggest baby chicks

Sorry to hear you are having problems with your chick. You can help it straighten it's toes, but you'll have to do it a.s.a.p. Here's some good info on foot and leg problems and cures:

Good luck!

I have a newly hatched serama chick with curled feet its about 8 hours old and struggling to stand it hatched on day 23 could this be the cause and will it rectified itself (UK member)
