2 1/2 acres isn't really small! You can have LOTS of chickens on that!

I have 1.1 acre and have 13 chickens, only 3 of them are bantam sized.

That said, Brahmas are awesome and friendly, so are Black Jersey Giants (don't let the name fool you, hatchery quality are actually not that big).
My araucana are really awesome too, and lay blue eggs.
