Friendliest Chickens

Speckled Sussex hens are very curious and interactive, love them! Belgian d'Uccles and Easter Eggers, at least some individuals.
Chickens aren't really meant to be 'cuddly' pets; they are prey animals, and know it, and will be happy to hang around underfoot, but not necessarily enjoy handling. Cats and dogs cuddle!
Consider getting several breeds to start, and see who appeals to you.
Bantams are great, and so are the 'big birds', so enjoy.

Thanks. I’m not wanting to dress them up or anything but I’ve waited SO long for them that I do want them to like me.

I have several breeds and usually get 2-3 individuals of each breed.
I did this so I could see how the same breed would be as individuals.
I have 3 Speckled Sussex and two are pretty friendly and will approach me but one wants nothing to do with me.
My EEs don’t want to be touched.
Neither do my bantam Cochins, Australorps, Jersey Giant, Naked Necks, and partridge Rocks.
My Silver Penciled Rocks are interesting because one is very adventurous and tries to go over the fence.
The other one is like a puppy a follows me curiously all the time.
I recently added 2 Barred Rocks and 2 buff Orpingtons to my flock.
They are chicks and sadly one of the Orpingtons died two weeks ago.
But the remaining one and one of the BRs are exceptionally friendly and unafraid of being held.
Especially the Barred Rock chick.
I can actually put it on my lap and it will peck around calmly.
So my point is that you really never know what they’ll be like.
I also have a porcelain D’Uccle chick that is pretty calm too.

I have a speckled sussex, easter egger and black australorp. All are very nice and friendly. None like being picked up and they are all nice to each other. When and if I get more chickens I think I will stick with these breeds.

If you're on 2.5 acres you don't need bantams unless you just want them. All of my barred rocks are "friendly," but I don't try to pick them up or cuddle them. They're great layers, excellent foragers, and very rarely, if ever, go broody. (Mine never have.)

Thank you ... how is the pronounced please?
It's french, so pronounced "dewkl" after the city Uccle [ykl] "ewkl" in Belgium. I have some and the boys are skittish around me and cuddly with each other, but the girls I had were absolutely the sweetest birds (before an owl got them and broke my heart). The roosters don't have spurs, so that's a plus as well. I would recommend them to anyone wanting a friendly breed that doesn't mind chickens on the roof because they are great flyers!
