Sometimes you can say something that sounds ok, except the way in which you mean it is insulting. For example Auntie tells Boyd that he looks like Brett micheals could mean either:
A i'm saying he looks like a rock star
B i'm hinting that he resembles the creepy guy with thinning hair, greasy skin who's chasing after strippers half his age.
This one is simple in that we already know auntie thought the long hair was a bit much...
This is not a method of scarcasim you mom is likely to use, so you'll need to work on sorting out when someone's "complements" are really insults.
