From egg to chick!

Pics
Aww :hugs . Old memories are something to be cherished. My first flock consisted of a blue haze pullet, two ISA brown sisters, one australorp pullet, one or two white leghorns, and a mix breed cockerel. They taught me quite a bit. Not all positive, but that's living organisms. One of the ISA brown pullets would fly to your arm, and if you hugged her, she would spread her wings. Very cute. The cockerel was an a$s. The australorp was bullied extensively, and after she passed, so was the blue haze. Took me two more of each to realise that having a single bird that doesn't look like the others is a bad idea
My fave buff did that. We joked she was my ESC (emotional support chicken). She would "hug you". It was awesome. They used to sit (and s**t) in my shirt 😆

The first two pics are of my baby. Feisty. The last two were my flock. Look at little Brahms. He was my light brahma rooster. He took FOREVER to get feathers 😆 Then looked like a dinosaur for weeks after. He didn't get all his feathers until 10 weeks old. They all died at around 12 weeks old.

My buffs:
Feisty
Chocobo

RIR - Red
Light Brahma Roo- Brahms
Lavender Orp - Arwyn
Silkie - Cloud
Salmon Faverolles - Serena and Small Lady
Silver Laced - Blackie
Gold Laced - Brownie (we got this one but it passed at about 6 weeks old. Ended up getting out somehow and laid with my kid :( )

P.s. let me know if you recognize some of the names!!

I see. Pictures of the birds that sleep together would help "solve" this. It could be that the older RIR pullet is the least mature out of the POLs, and the younger birds that sleep with her could be the most mature out of their peers. Or it could simply be a matter of personality, or looks
Maybe they are like "Heck with those peeps. We are the rebels!"

Maybe they are just rebellious kids. Like the kids in high-school that hung out away from others.

They're so cute. So so sorry for your losses:hugs

Here are the babies at night. I let Kithara in bc he kept trying to get to them. They didn't attack him. He picked a middle post. Hoping it's all fine and dandy in the morning? Stood out there watching for a good 10 minutes. I will probably check twice more before bed just because.

Three girls were making their spot better. That's also their dirt bath spot. Nice heated dirt area. Lol.

Side note. Atropos is usually on the other side.

Don't think like that. One can draw many parallels between animals and humans, but it can become a dangerous game to play. Chickens are not cruel. If anything, we are. Chickens simply do what all animals do, by trying to survive, and potentially thrive
Sorry, I should have said a "seemingly cruel side to them." I'm not the best at wording things. If I really believed chickens were cruel, why would they be my favorite animal? This reminds me of how birds of prey are stereotyped to be cruel, but they should be well-respected because their hunting skills are very good.
