Oh, that would be wonderful if that is all it is. The kids have a delay for school today due to snow, and I am off work. I have to get the kids in to school, then I will try soaking her feet and see if it comes out easily. I have her in a dog crate right now, with a nesting pad in there. She is eating and drinking well, and seems happy.

Let us know what you find out, they can get "stuff" stuck in there, so I'm hoping that's what it is:fl
 
Well, the smaller spot came right out and appeared to just be debris. I cleaned the area well and applied neosporin just in case. The larger place is definitely emedded, so it is infection. I soaked her feet for 20 minutes, which she did not like. She is really flighty and doesn't like to be touched. She tolerated it as long as I had her wrapped in a towel. A tiny edge of the scab came up, but the rest was tight. I smeared it with neosporin, and will soak it again later. I went to Tractor Supply but could not find the vetericyn. Will the epsom salt soaks and neosporin be enough, or do I need something stronger? TS looked like their medicine area had been wiped out...there wasn't much of anything. All I have at the house is BluKote and hydrogen peroxide.
 
I would continue with the soak & neosporin (less pain relief) ... Softens the scab. BluKote once the scab is off ... Wonder if hydrogen peroxide would help loosen the scab, it fizzles & disrupt things, know it's good for initial cleaning of a wound but after it tends to disrupt healing. Hang in there to see what the more experienced have to say .... @Wyorp Rock

It's good that the one was just debris and you got it out.

For the other foot, I would soak in epsom salts, dry well, then use the Neosporin. You can wrap the foot to help keep the ointment on the foot and it will be cleaner that way. I would still try soaking/application of ointment and see if the scab and kernel can be removed with that method instead of cutting. It may take a couple of days of soaking/ointment and wrapping.

Great! I will continue. I need to find a better method to wrap her foot. I used the vet wrap that sticks to itself, and she had it picked off in 2 minutes flat.
 
I used that video and hopefully the wrap will stay on. She has had it on for 2 hours so far! She is going to sleep now, so it should stay on all night.
 
I have been soaking for 15 to 20 minutes at a time, twice yesterday and once today. The edge of the black scab is coming up on one side. The wrap stayed on all day! Thanks for the video @Wyorp Rock

I am hopeful that another day or two of the soaking and neosporin, plus wrapping will remove the kernel.

I have been keeping her inside this whole time. I was going to try to let her out with the others during the day, but it has been raining nonstop since yesterday late aternoon, and I want to keep her bandage dry. I hope she integrates back in okay after all this. She is lowest in the pecking order. I think tomorrow, I will bring the other buff orp in to visit with her. It is supposed to rain tomorrow and drop temps all day. The ground is so wet that it oozes water like a saturated sponge. :sick

Good idea to bring in a visitor.
The rain has been terrible all year actually, but yes, LOTS of rain today with cold temps and wind chills coming our way!

Since she is low in pecking order, you may have to re-integrate her by putting her cage in the run so the others can see her. You never know what chickens will do, she may be accepted back no problems or she may get picked on.

I hope the scab comes off you will be be able to get all the infection out. You're dong really well with this. Thank you for the update, please keep us posted.
