Frustrating not knowing where someone lives.

If I ask or answer a question where geographical location makes a difference, I will mention my state, and even what portion of that state I live in.

The day I joined BYC, I registered, got everything set up to participate. Didn't have my profile completely filled out but my intention was to get it done at earliest oppourtunity. Made my first post, which was a hello, in the proper forum. And with in 15 minutes I had 2 PMs telling me I needed to do this and that with my profile, location and such. Been a member of a few forums but I ain't never seen Mommie/Granny/Private forum police that fast. That kinda got my dander up, so I just didn't go back and finish my profile stuff. Still every so often I get a PM telling me I either should/have to/ or must fill in my location. I am not paranoid concerning privacy, but have any of you ever tried to push a mule----- I am that mule.

The post above is almost an exact copy of the PM I get every so often.

to those who are paranoid, we know who you are, and will be dealing with you shortly

Meh. I don't see what the big deal is. Live and let live.

You can't make everyone do what you want them to. Just tell the poster what YOU do and where YOU live and they will have to extrapolate if need be.

What the big deal is giving correct information to help you. Why should I tell them where I am, its right over there to the left. They can read English or they wouldn't be on this forum.

Personally, I am not going to respond to reguests for help that are climate related unless they give enough location information.

It gets a little crazy trying to pull information from people that ask for help, but don't tell you where they are (general area on this planet would be nice, or even which continent if they are not in North America). What breed of fowl, if its LF or banty, etc. I've lived in MI, CA,OH and TX. So I have a clue about the different environments for those areas of the country in relation to chickens.

Without the basic information, we can give out wrong information. Then later find out: Oh, I have Spanish White face chickens. 2-3 pages later, oh I'm in Minnesota, or UK, or Australia. And 2 pages later, Oh they are Bantams. Well, sorry all the information I just gave you is probably wrong, because I don't know diddle about bantams.

Its very frustrating, and a lot of time I just don't want to play the question game. I just walk on by. I notice lately that a lot of reguests for information aren't getting responses. Could be why.

That is just the point, some people, either out of paranoia or just neglect, don't put their location in their profile. If they did, it would make the information they're asking for more valuable.

My point is, whether they live in Alaska or Southern Florida, when they see I live in Idaho, they are going to take what I say about winter as if I mean it for my birds, which is all I can tell them anyway. Just because they are in Florida, that doesn't mean they didn't glean something from my post.
