"When breeding and hatching Turken only about 90% come naked necked and 10% come with feathers on their neck. We only ship you the naked neck chicks, however they will also have offspring if bred pure that will be 10% feather necked." from the website.

Ok, now I understand what you are saying. I was getting some of the fully feathered neck chick's before when I was still using the white NN rooster over the hen's. I'm using a different roo now, and the chick's that hatched from my last batch from my flock all had the naked neck's, and none had the fully feathered necks. Now I just need to work toward's the cleaner looking neck's on future chick's.

My confusion stems from comments about bowties, bibbs and fully featherless down to the crops. Two of these have the wisps on the necks and crops are visible. The bibb, Fuzzy, has a covered crop. I have old pictures and will try for new ones later.

Cackles' comments confused me since their website shows feathered crops. I guess the neck stops above the chest?

The bib's are usually farther down on the neck, and do cover the crop. The smaller wisps farther up on the necks' are bowties, and the crop is visible. A clean neck has no feather's at all on the neck. Does that help your confusion?

:gigThings will change as it grows up. The Nn can look like they have bibs, bowties, or be naked clear down the front making them look like they're wearing a v neck shirt. It all depends on genes.

No, I believe we got ours from the same source. Yes, meat. I'd like a pullet for yard decoration and eggs, but will be keeping the smallest pullets from the Barnyard Surprise hatching. I believe I will try another round in the spring for next year's meat. Wish I could keep a rooster, but neighbors and rules prevent it. Trying to convince Crazy Lady to move.

The feather variation is intriguing. I see on yours that they have large bibs and yours have different parentage. Two of these have wisps on the neck and one has a bib. Reading on one of the hatchery websites, it states that chicks with any feathers on the necks are not sold. I'm liking the hatching eggs for several reasons.

If you got yours from CompostKing then we sure did. I really like the meaty mixes I got from him! None ended up with naked necks but I'm hoping to eventually mix the Turkens with the meat birds for meatier Turkens.
