I learned a lot the first time I whitewashed and this time it went much quicker. I mixed as I poured 2 c salt into a gallon of hot tap water, then mixed in 4 c lime. I added half a gallon of boiling water and mixed in 4 c lime, then added another half gallin boiling water and mixed again. The first coat is much thicker than the last time because the lime mixed better with hot water. Here's the big coop, not totally dry yet but even the areas that didn't get the wash last time have a nice appearance

The mini coop. It's hard to tell on fresher wood what has been painted. I need a smaller brush to do the 2x2s in here anyway so I'll touch up if necessary.

I thought the Dorking girl was taking a day off yesterday until I went out to the coop tiday and found her nest on the floor in the corner opposite the box. Two eggs were in there. My egg basket hasn't been this full in a long time!

@igorsMistress My shipped egg's arrived this morning instead of tomorrow. I unpacked them carefully right away, and they are resting. This lady pack's the best! Some of these egg's are big and fatter than the dark eyes girl's egg's are. I tried to put them into a large sized egg carton, and the top won't close. I will need jumbo for any pullet's that hatch from those egg's!

That's great! I was wondering when you were getting those.

I so want to try hatching some of my eggs to see if I can get some Nn girls for this little rooster. I'm seriously considering putting 6 or 8 in the incubator.

Now is the time to do that, as the pullet's hatched out now will be laying before it get's cold again, and they won't molt this fall. That's the way to have winter egg's while the older one's will be molting.

You're incorrigible!

I don't know where I'd put them if they hatched. I might tempt the big girls with a few fake eggs in a nest and see if anyone goes for it. If we had a broody that would fix things quite nicely.
