Fugly Farm

I hope that everyone had a great Valentine's Day! One of my 3 Barnevelder pullet's layed her first egg today! Roger roo was in the nesting box with her to make sure that the older girl's couldn't make her get out of it.
What a good boy!

Congrats on the first time layer and the good boy!

I'm in a quandary about what to do with my flock. I have 2 pullets directly related to the little guy, and 3 of 5 red girls that are nice and heavy.

Jr is down to 4 girls with the Dorking pullet firmly in his camp.

How should I divide the girls between the 2 coops? 1 coop isn't going to work. The roost is too short and Jr is becoming less tolerant of the other boys at night.

I guess for now I'm going to house tge little guy and all the younger ladies in the mini coop. If Jr entices one or two to his camp then that's how it goes.

We each have to deal with our flock's in the way that we see the most fit for them.

That one red FNN pullet that I hatched out over here has to be heavy, because when she walk's, I hear the thump, thump, thump. She eat's good. They all got wet feed yesterday, and some cabbage too. My 6 chick's in the grow-out pen are doing good too. Some interesting color's are developing in those.

We got the 3 cockerels done, Igor is butchering now. He used a piece of chain and we hung them from the shelf on his ladder with the trash can beneath to pluck. It worked great! The Dorking/RR boys had a ton of feathers and the carcasses have these funky hairs all over them. The biggest will be dinner on Thursday. When I went to put them in the crate to move them to the garden they screamed loud enough my neighbors turned on their porch light to look outside. It's much quieter out there, just a few crows from Jr this morning and everyone ate peacefully.

Edit: the largest of the 3 boys dressed out at 5 lbs at 27 weeks. I've never let them just sit at the feeder, they had to get out of the coop and go out to the yard and peck the ground or forage which kept them from standing at the feeders all day once I introduced them again. There was a bit of fat on them but not too much to be gross. I found 2 gallon freezer bags, my vacuum sealer died.

So, Jr has all of the girl's to himself now?

I have this one person that was looking for egg carton's. I have 40 of them here that I could give them, so we will see how bad they want them. I've been trying to give them away for free. I have way too many of them.

That's ok. You kept calling her the Cowgirl, so it's stuck. I've been calling her that too, now! :lau
