Fugly Farm

I enjoy it quite a bit myself! The grow light wasn’t expensive at all, I got it at Amazon of course. I’m going to use my bonus money from work to expand my operation a little bit. They could really give a huge jump start to the growing season and I don’t have the space for my greenhouse outside even though it’s small. I have quite a bit under just that one light.

I have always brooded my chicks where my bigs could see them. Right after hatch they would go out to the mini coop so everyone could see but not touch until they were four weeks, then I let them all out. The pop door on the mini coop excluded the bigs from getting in so the chicks had a safe place to retreat to. Since the ducks can’t fly over I figure this should work ok.

I think you'd enjoy expanding your growing operation, good use for your bonus money!

Someday, DH and I are going to build a small greenhouse in the backyard. We think if we can get it close to one side of the garage, that will help act as a wind break. With 3 house cats, indoor plants aren't a good option for us. 😼

We got everything done! The patio has been cleared of everything that doesn’t belong there except the wire for the garden and the pavers I need to lay. The broken pavers have been dumped in a pile near the trash cans so my wheelbarrow is empty. Everything that goes in the shed is in the shed and all my tools have been put away. Two shrubs got a trim, a bunch of stuff got some fertilizer, the duck house is ready for babies and the soup bowl is soaking. Hubs got the rope lights installed also. Pics from today

Looks great! I can't wait to see your new babies :D

I love this funky space. Still a work in progress but it’s coming along. Frankenwagon is back on the rocks by the wall, out of the way but still available when needed. There’s a tiny plant in there that will one day be a 12-15 foot tall tree.

Yeah, forgot about that! That’s actually how our cat DC got his name...knocking a plant into the kitchen sink, knocking a plant over in the living room, knocking a plant over in the bathroom...

What kind of tree is that IM?
I don’t remember to be honest. I remember seeing it at one of the stores and looking it up and found out it grows about that size so I got it. I’ve wanted a small tree over there for a long time that will provide shade in the late afternoon and block the damn google camera from looking into my yard. The oleanders will help that as well.

Yeah, that's a great place for them!
I want to set up a mini coop in my enclosed pen, so I might possibly be using that as a brooder at some point down the road, but that will depend on outside temps! I like the idea of a smaller door to keep the bigs out, yet provide safety for the little's. I'm excited to get it set up!

I’ve never used a brooder. I brooded my chicks in the mini coop. It’s in the same yard as the big house and that worked beautifully. They could see each other through the hardware cloth for that first month. I’ve used the mini as a rooster jail, a hospital room, etc also. I’m just using NIC grids to divide the big house in half for the ducks. The foundation is concrete blocks and there’s enough space to slide the grids between two on each side. Since they aren’t able to jump over like chickens it’s a little easier to house everyone together.
