Thanks for sharing the results of the blended brine IM! Interesting results. And it's always nice to be able to adjust to fit tastes.

Is it this coming week when you'll have some newly hatched chicks (I've kind of lost track)?

Hatches should be next week Thursdayish and the following Monday.

Igor liked this version of the brine quite a bit too. Much more flavor throughout the meat not just on the surface where the rub is.

Next time we process birds we're going to quarter a couple and debone one. Then brine and try different flavors on a smaller scale.

I've really enjoyed following along with your experiences in brining. It's something I've never tried, but you've made me curious.

I've only brined pork chops before, it's a great way to keep them drying out, especially on the bbq. Doing so with chicken is new for me too, but so is raising them for meat.

Thank you so much for that recipe you posted that suggested throwing the veggies in the blender! That really made a huge difference. :hugs

Ha, I just told DH about the blended brine you tried and now he's curious about trying it too. Thanksgiving is coming up, might have to try it on a turkey, provided I get a blender or food processor in time.

Glad you guys liked it!

Just an FYI the onion and celery flavors really come through. You can always grate the fresh veggies if you haven't decided by then on a blender or food processor.

Grating would work, I have the means and the knuckles :p ). I do have 2 food processors in my Amazon "wish list", I've been checking periodically to see if the prices drop on either one (because I am a cheapskate).

Nothing wrong with being a cheapskate, I do that too :highfive:Why pay more? I think right now sellers are waiting for Black Friday though, only about 6 weeks away now. I've been patiently waiting for a couple things too.

Have been talking with my DIL recently, she wants some egg layers and I happen to have some pullets I want to get rid of.

I'm giving her the 2 white Turken females from my last hatch. I'm keeping all the boys plus the Dorking mix pullet from that hatch and the pullet that @BlueBaby hatched a couple weeks before.

From the older girls she's getting the two black pullets with bibs and the smaller buff pullet with the black tail.

I'm glad they'll have a home and can be layers for someone.

I'll be left with the Salmon Faverolles boy as well as 1 each white, black, blue, red and buff Nn girls. The white one isn't laying yet and I suspect the red girl might not be at all. Once I get rid of the others I'll have to spend some time stalking chickens.

That's great your DIL is interested in raising a flock! And super nice her MIL had some extras :thumbsup
