Just got done doing a few things outside but it’s getting toasty out there already, even in light shade. Got the shade garden cleaned out and laid down the first strip of weed barrier. I’m debating about using it in the whole thing because I don’t want the chickens in there, they eat everything including what I don’t want them to, and the weeds get terrible. I’m not sure what I’d use over the weed barrier, gravel maybe, but I’d really like some pavers in there too; maybe plant some creeping thyme? I dunno, we’ll see. I used some welded wire trimmings to wire my metal rooster to a paver and moved him back outside; now maybe he won’t get knocked/blown over. Also wired my little green ducks to the trellis in the center. I’m hoping Igor will make the trellis for the dragon fruit this weekend so I can get those transplanted next week, and if he doesn’t fix my wheelbarrow soon I’m going to be in trouble.

Sounds like a busy day!

New routine with the crew. I open the pop door a little bit before sunrise. Elvis crows at the gate when everyone is up and assembled for revelry. I go out to toss some scratch and there are five chickens and a quail waiting. I’ve named the quail Quincy.

That's so cool Quincy has decided to stick around (love his name).

Been busy outside today. Hubs is almost done putting up the wire around the raised beds. I made a mixture of five bricks of coco coir and three bags of lava rock for the dragon fruit plants

Washed all the soil of the roots of the plants and tossed one because it had a moldy spot. The base of the planters and the pipe are filled with several inches of pea gravel. Then I put the coco and lava rock in. I’m using the ties off bales of straw to hold them to the pipe because I couldn’t find my usual stuff.
