Fugly Farm

Suds and Puddles hid from me today when I tossed them food, then again when I gave them fresh water and a few peas. I also added fresh water to their pool, think I’ll dump it tomorrow morning. Attila has seen them in the small yard but other than taking a minute to look she didn’t seem to care. Stormy went back to sleeping in the coop last night so she has seen them, now to get Red and Attila in the coop with the babies. I haven’t figured out where they’re sleeping yet, but Attila was out before sunrise and scared the heck out of me when I went to turn on the hose. It surprised me yesterday when I saw Red chase off Attila; I thought for sure that Attila would be the top hen but Red might give her a run for that spot. I think that might be a good thing in a way, Attila got her name for a reason. The boys are growing like weeds, in that “all legs” stage right now. I’m still slightly pulverizing pellets for them, and they’re down to three feedings a day. I switched up the scratch schedule; I’ll spread a weeks worth throughout the yard, flinging it far and wide while it’s still dark so the wild birds don’t see me. Breakfast and dinner is their pellets with treats around lunchtime. By treats I mean a handful of mixed baby greens, country greens or a mixture of herbs. Sometimes fruit or other veggies, depending what’s on hand. It’s an adjustment, I’ve been hearing a lot of grumbling about no scratch in the morning but oh well.

Let them grumble, when they get hungry enough, they'll eat (that's what my grandma used to say about us kids anyway).

Found some presents from the ducks this morning when I cleaned their pool. They weren’t in the pool, behind it next to the wall

My kind of ladies :gigThe duck eggs are pretty big, larger than a jumbo chicken egg. I’d feel bad for the hen that tried to lay them.

My DH brought eggs in one day, carefully pulled them out his pocket and set them on the counter with a big grin…they were the fake eggs I’d left in the nest for the new layers :lau
