Fugly Farm

I just fed everyone; on my way back from the ducks I checked to make sure the pigeons weren’t pigging out in the chickens food. I wish I’d had my phone, the boys were in a pool with their heads just able to peek over the rim. So cute!

The ducks have come out from the small yard to join the morning forage. Very happy about this, and the chickens don’t care a bit.

I've been measuring and feeding the flock a tablespoon of pigeon feed per bird each day for scratch. I think I'm going to keep it on hand for winter treats when there's not much to forage, and only give it two or three days a week instead of their greens. Everyone is fine, but I just don't think it's necessary for them to have it when there's lots of stuff to forage in the yard right now. Still giving greens so they don't eat all my plants though.

The teenager is going to help me take out bulk trash and move some pavers over the weekend. I have a Greenstalk that I want to get set up in the shade garden so I can prep for fall and winter greens. Excited to get that going. Still debating about whether to plant corn or not. If I am I better get it done. We'll have cooler temps this weekend, maybe 110ish instead of 116-118, but we have some moisture coming in with a chance for some monsoon rain too. I think I'll get the rest of the dry stuff from Spring trimming burned too.

The boys are doing great. They know the pools have cool water in them so spend a lot of their time in a pool or aying on the cool ground right outside. I've noticed that Red isn't clucking to them so much and they're starting to do their own thing a bit more too. Stormy is the only girl who roosts in the coop. I'll have to block off the current sleeping spot the rest are using, bribe them with food to go into the coop, then lock them in for an evening/overnight and see how that goes.

I had to look up "greenstalk"...is this what you're going to set up?

That looks like it would be great for growing greens, and maybe more watering efficient too (I'm guessing).
Oh definitely. You water it from the top and it filters all the way down to the bottom.
