Fugly Farm

It's nice you can take care of some of this work before it turns brutally hot IM!
I have to do it now because I can assure you that when it’s summer all I’m doing is watering and taking care of the crew. I can’t take the heat anymore.

Spent the evening outside and watched the sunset, it has been a long while. The wild birds are busy duking it out all day so Spring is in the air. We have a young bird that hangs out in the evenings that Igor said is a Grackle. I don’t know that I agree so I’m going to have him look it up tomorrow.

In the morning we’re taking the dogs with us to get carabiners and eye screws for the shade so we can test it out. We were going to do it earlier today but we both ran out of steam.
Plus I need to do a little more pounding on the rebar and start work on the compost. That will be an early morning project before it gets warm for sure.

Attila is annoying me with her behavior enough that I’m considering chicken stew. She creates a lot of drama and even the girls seem like they’re over it. We will see if she starts laying again, but I don’t think I really have the heart.

Started pounding in some rebar but only got it down about six inches. Got the hose on to get the soil wet so I can go pound on it some more.
I have a set of drill bits, that I have drilled into earth, to pound in rebar. (for various projects)
You can drill as deep as 2 feet with these. Pounding in the rebar is easy-peasy.:frow Of course it takes a little time, and a number of lifting out, to remove the soil. (from the fluted drill shank)
I know the soil you have in Arizona. Almost concrete.
Wetting the area, only softens a limited depth.

I don’t have a drill, it’s Igor’s and he would be irritated if I used his drill bits for things like this. It’s fine though, I only need this in a foot and it’s pretty much there. Once it goes in, getting it out is just as difficult so it’s a one way trip.

We have this stuff called caliche. If you run into that, I don’t care what you have it’s not going to penetrate. I wish I had a backhoe almost every time I need to dig a hole :gig

Just got done with the first batch of meatballs. I found a pound of ground pork and two pounds of very lean hamburger in the freezer yesterday so made a big batch to freeze extras. These are seasoned for spaghetti and I may make a batch of homemade sauce to go with. That way nobody has to go to the store.

I have a new sourdough starter I’m working on. This is day four and I think it needs a bigger jar. Once it’s a week old I’m going to try that cracker recipe I found on YouTube.

Cameron has surgery next Friday for his man issue but this will definitely take care of it. My MIL passed away, as expected, and the very next day my other MIL, Igor’s stepmom, fell and broke her femur about six inches below the joint 😬 Surgery for her went well and she’s in rehab now.

Igor took Frank to the hardware store to get parts for the shade and now Franks head is as big as a hot air balloon. Apparently he got a lot of attention while they were there.

The ducks and chickens are having a good morning in the yard. All are foraging and enjoying the nice weather. We are supposed to drop into the 70’s by Tuesday I think and we have a very small chance of rain at the end of next week.

Lots going on there at Fugly Farm!

Sorry about Igor's mom passing and hope his stepmom gets through her surgery ok. And little guy too, best wishes to him!

Frank is a pretty awesome guy, it's only fitting he should have lots of attention. :)
