Turken mix cockerel. I'm thinking this guy might be a keeper, super chill. Doesn't typically mess with the chicks, could care less about the other boys and has his eye toward the bigs these days

I've been battling the pigeons. My latest routine is to keep the wee ones in until about 9 am, then bring in their feeder once their pop door is open. At lunch I go out and feed them, then late afternoon I take the feeder back out, they follow me in to eat and I lock them up.

The bigs and tweens have access to gravity feeders that the pigeons can't reach so their feed isn't an issue.

One of the wee ones got stuck under a feed bowl in the big coop. I noticed it was turned over yesterday afternoon but didn't pick it up until this morning when I went to clean, busy day. Poor baby, he's ok but lesson learned, I'll never do that again.

ETA: In talking with the breeder of the fully feathered wee ones, he had mentioned a possibility of sex linking, red would be female and white would be male. I believe that to be accurate in my case. All the white fully feathered chicks have big combs already compared to the red.
Some of the red chicks have black or brown markings. Will try to get some good pics of those.

I know! A lot of the fully feathered chicks are heavier than the Turkens even though they're younger. They're mixed with Red Ranger which are fast growers for meat.

The tweens hatched in August so probably in the next couple of months.

In theory the new meaty mixes will enable me to hatch and process enough birds next year to provide all our chicken because they grow faster; brining will recommence once we're up and running.

@igorsMistress It look's like your new flock is coming along good! Would you believe that I currently have no chick's in the house right now? Not even developing one's in the incubator. I tossed those last 4 chick's out into the grow-out pen earlier today.

Yes, don't you think that I need one? I do! Not counting 3 of those 4 chick's I threw outside yesterday, I have 6 new blood's here that I have to see what egg's and such that they will be laying and how they finish growing out. The 3 Barnevelder's and the 2 OGEE's seem to have adjusted with the rest of the flock pretty good. I have decided that I don't like the silkies though, because they are a higher maintenance breed.
