We've been talking about our pigeon problem. They are horrendous and I really hate them going into the coop. Also, with deep litter in there it's difficult to keep them out of the gravity feeder because the floor height changes. Leaving a feeder out in the elements where ground height is consistent allows food to get wet in some of our storms; gotta love vertical rain.

Our solution is to use the mini coop. The floor can be cleaned regularly, it's big enough for 2 or 3 feeders mounted on a wall plus the 5 gallon waterer. The feeders can be mounted just out of pigeon reach to limit food waste. I'm removing the door from it, which I'm recycling as a grass frame.

Igor made a grass frame today from leftover 2x2s and some hwc. I'm putting it outside the garden and planting xeriscape grass in it. The door will have another type, will have to check the label. Here's the frame

The flock will enjoy the grass frame!

(I have to admit, I read it as "glass frame" at first. Guess I need more coffee.)

Pics of progress. Looks like painting will happen tomorrow

The feeders have been repaired and installed. Igor said the door should stay in case we need a second coop so I took off the shade screens and pop doors instead. The pigeons have been around, we'll see if they get a meal.

The chickens seem to enjoy having access to the space quite a lot. I cleaned out the bedding that was in there. I'm thinking a bag of pine pellets would be good to put on the floor.
I'm going to paint both coops tomorrow, hopefully two coats each. I also need to rake the yard and put some dirt over the poop I added to the compost pile.

Cool feeders, you should do an article on them :)

Thank you, I'm pretty sure there's an article here on them.

I'm growing Dutch gold potatoes we like from the grocery store. I had some that were growing eyes, figured I'd give it a try. Hoping to plant some squash and herbs Monday. Keeping my fingers crossed for dill and basil!
