I love ficus trees. I've never had a bonsai.
I had 3 ficus, that were each over 5' tall, but they only live inside, here. I ended up rehoming them all several years ago, because of the mess. I know at least one is still flourishing. I had worked to braid the trunks. I managed it on one, but not the others.
I admire anyone who can work with bonsai.

I like focus also. I had one that was about 4 feet tall but it eventually kicked the bucket. I kept
It outside and it only got morning sun so it was fine for a while. Then one year it got to be really hot here, nights at 95 and days at 115+ for a long stretch, and the tree died. I was really upset! This little one will be outside when it’s nice, but otherwise I’m keeping it under a grow light in my office with the rest of my plants.
 
Things are starting to look promising
