I used to have an ant, frog, lizard, and butterfly. Most have been broken over the years but the ant is still around here somewhere.
I like your idea, of just ants, better.

If I had a choice I would add some metal bees in there.

Just got home with 200 lbs of cement. Setting the poles for the shade over the garden in summer.

So far for this project we spent $28 on cement and $29 on an 8’ x 12’ 50% shade tarp. The tarp was on sale on Amazon which I hate, but its edges are finished and it has grommets. We have treated wood tree stakes laying around that haven’t been used to set in the concrete, then attaching eye screws to the poles and using carabiners to attach the shade. I don’t think we have the proper wire to use for a support, but some paracord should work fine and I have that on hand.

We had stuff to do today other than yard work and we are both kinda tired. We’re ready to set the poles first thing in the morning. I did get a feeder set up in the shade garden for the chickens, pulled two of my biggest grow bags and I’m filling with yard debris in the bottoms, then will add compost as I make it. Also pulled out the Greenstalk and the last metal bed to set up. The metal bed will have whatever yard debris I don’t put in the grow bags.

Not at all. I don’t let anyone into my veg garden, but I have seen the ducks eat leaves off the lemon tree while the chickens prefer the blooms they can reach. That’s no big deal, the tree is plenty big enough to provide a harvest we can manage, but often much more than we can manage as well.

The ducks prefer to play in the mud and leave little pits all over the place as opposed to hunting weeds. I have to be careful not to break my ankles or neck.

It is a gorgeous morning here! I fed the veggies, watered most things in the yard and planted the Jerusalem artichokes after I amended the soil in one bed with vermiculite. Both beds got four heaping trowels full of worm castings mixed in after I planted. Also put in some Armenian cucumber seed today in the last small bed. Igor is getting prepped to get the cement mixed and set the poles for the shade. I tried to dig up the small chaste tree but no way. It’s at the edge of a compost pile and very happy so I don’t want to jinx it. It will provide late afternoon shade for the garden in the later part of the summer so it’s fine. Igor agreed to set up the last metal bed to put in the shade garden so I can fill it partially with yard debris and get more cleaned up. I am so excited for the garden this year. Once that bed is in I can set the Greenstalk where I want it and start filling with soil a bit at a time and it will be ready for late fall greens.

The chickens are making those lovely angry hen sounds because they all want the same nest
