Hi everyone!!

Any funny duck stories??🦆

I have plenty (mom of 18 duck kids and counting), but would love to hear everyone else's also 😊

When my Rouen hen Kingsley went broody last spring, she made her nest in my ducks' little green house and refused to let anyone else go in (including me, I nearly lost a finger just trying to give her more hay to make sure she was cozy)LOL 🤣

But what was so adorable is that twice a day, my drake Darius (her mate), would walk into the little green house and tap Kingsley gently with his bill as though saying "go ahead and take a break, sweetie I'll watch the kids." Kingsley would then cheerfully get up to eat, swim, visit with her sister.

While Kingsley would take her break, Darius would stand and look at the nest like a proud papa (aww), and turn over the eggs. He would stay in the little green house to watch the nest until Kingsley returned, and only then would he run off to go play with his brother Amadeus.

*I included a photo of my beautiful girls. Kingsley is the one in the front (right hand side)

Ahh, your story is sweet, and your ducks are lovely. Most of my stories are just about weird duck stuff.

I was using an old skillet as a feed dish for my runners ducks a couple of years ago. One day, one of the girls cleverly walked out to the skillet and laid her egg in the middle. Maybe she was trying to tell me to fix myself some breakfast?

Recently, it's been really hot and a couple of the ducks have been taking a swim in the kiddie pool -- and leaving their eggs in the water. When I empty the pool of its always-muddy duck water, eggs roll out onto the ground.

Last summer one of the ducks carried an empty egg shell over to the pool and dunked it in. I have no idea what she was trying to do.

When my ducks were first experimenting with mating, my hens very clearly thought there weren’t enough drakes in town. They took it upon themselves to “be the drakes..” Everyone warns of too many drakes on hens, but no one speaks of too many hens on hens! A bit blurry, but look at this triple stack!:th

‘Course, there was my drake who also flipped the script. He decided his hens weren’t nesting enough, so he chose to nest for them.

I also think everyone deserves to see their ducks eating watermelon at some point. Slice ‘em into sticks, rind included. They’ll eat the flesh like normal, but once they get down to the tough rind, the game changes. You’ll see 1 duck running with a chunk of rind, and about 5 others chasing after trying to steal it!

LOL!!🤣 Ducks do the cutest things, don't they..my little Khaki campbell Pharoah likes to do unusual things with her eggs too..pretty much everything you described and she used to also bury them, after which the ones that I was unable to locate would rot and act as landmines if I accidentally stepped on them (she did this to me sooo many times ) 😑 lol🤣

LOL!!🤣 that is so funny I've never seen anything like that before. Gorgeous duckies BTW, the one in the middle looks similar to my Freddie Joy❤️😊.

Aww that's so cute that your drake sat on a nest...did the babies hatch????❤️🐥🐥🐥🐥

100% agree on the watermelon!!❤️😊 I love to feed them celery also...the sound of them crunching on celery is so adorable, especially with crested ducks because when they chew on the celery it makes their little hairstyles bounce with each crunch🤣❤️🦆

No, I didn’t let him get that far. With how dedicated he was, though, I’m interested in letting him try again next year 😂
That would be so adorable to see...imagine how cute his excitement would be when they start to hatch
Such a pretty crested duck too.

I have I pretty crested duck too (mine is female). I have a feeling they would be very interested in meeting eachother 🦆 🦆❤️. I'll put a link so you could see her...she resembles yours a LOT 😊

If we decided to breed our crested ducks together their ducklings would be beyond gorgeous 🐥🐥🐥🐥🥰

I love this story! I searched for “rind” to find threads about cucurbitacin as a dewormer and there’s plenty of seed anecdotes, but I’m curious about fruit and rind content, too. I have a mixed flock (ducks, turkeys and geese) and am always interested in supplements/dewormers etc that are natural and hopefully, they enjoy eating so I don’t have to force it. My babies I always put floaties in their water, ducks love floaties or sinkies for that matter, and it encourages my poults to peck at and drink water. If I don’t have fresh greens from my yard I use Kaytee bird greens. My birds love watermelon but the turkeys seem to go for the rind in particular. I’ve read that it does have an anthelmintic effect as well as anti inflammatory and anti tumor. The humble 🥒 packs a punch!
As to the duck stories, my girls are naughty and do the triple ducker in the pool right before allowing the drakes to do it for real. I guess practice?? It’s funny now-as a first time duck owner I wondered if the girls were defective or if I’d actually get fertilized eggs from them 😆
