Funny story (:

When our ducks were laying we ate the eggs all the time. They taste the same in my opinion. The only difference I could see was everything was thicker. Shells, membrane, and the white of the egg was very thick.

My mom is just odd about her food lol.
Lucky does NOT like the chickens. I had them out in the dog cage (really must get a second one... the dog was still using his lol) and the ducks came up in the yard to look for dinner. He started growling and tried to peck them through the bars. I naturally freaked out but carried him to another part of the yard and he seemed fine after that even though he could still see them. Thank goodness we were already going to seperate them but goodness gracious..

you'll find that drakes can be tempermental this time of year with mating their most important thing. So his view of the chickens may be he feels a threat. Who knows what goes on in the mind of a drake.. They can be a bit crazy. LOL

Like this morning my call duck drake attacked me when I went to go pick up one of "his girls." Needless to say, I was laughing so hard I almost fell out of he coop as he tried to grab my arm with his little bill.

I had heard this was prime mating season but I'm just hoping she doesnt decide to make a nest and settle down before I have a chance to move them.

I think I've finally decided. I'm going to name the male Lucky and the female Willow. (I would name her Lady but I dont like to use names twice and we've already had a Lady). I'll get some more pics up tonight. Willow thought it would be funny to wipe her beak on me after eating some banana... She just had to do it when I was wearing clean pants instead of the junky ones I normally wear out there lol

That is so funny. I have a female duck named Willow! She is a pekin though. Tell your mom that duck eggs are not much different then chicken eggs, except as they said, that everything is thicker (especially the mebrane). Plus, they will make a more "fluffy" eggs than chicken eggs. Once they start laying, have your mom try one. You can barely tell the difference.

Willow is a perfect name for your duck!

I was hesitant about duck eggs, too, for no particular reason. Then I got brave and scrambled some. Oh wow, I actually like them better than chicken eggs! So that left more chicken eggs for selling..... and I kept the duck eggs for myself. Well, except for one friend who bakes... I gave her some duck eggs with chicken eggs and she has now requested, if I have enough to spare, to exchange as many duck eggs as I can for the chicken eggs in her orders.

Lemme tell ya, brownies made with duck eggs are exquisite!

Thanks Ill be sure to let her know that that is the only difference. Im so excited about getting everything done and ready.. theyre getting so big and I'm sure that before I know it ill have both chicken and duck eggs(:

Thats the only thing i don't like about my Muscovies is I don't have duck eggs in the winter to use for baking, Brownies and just about anything else is so much better with duck eggs.
