fuzzi's Chicken Journal

My boyfriend is down in Florida still cleaning up his place. He lives in Englewood, where the hurricane made landfall. His two sisters' and mother's trailers were on Manasota Key, and were badly damaged. He had flooding at his house but thank God not the house itself.
It's going to be a long time before things are anywhere close to anything like normal again along that storm's track.

I've been keeping an eye on the news from Spain where torrential rain and flooding has killed over 200 people now. I have friends in one of the hardest hit areas. Thankfully they and their chickens are fine.
FL got 2 hurricanes within about a week of one another, that was awful to deal with.

I've seen some of the news from Spain, very sad.

I had to stay late for a meeting, and the traffic was bad coming home, so I didn't get to visit with my flock. I did go out wearing a headlamp to check the water and food levels. As I moved about the coop I heard a little concerned twittering coming from the roosts.
;)

Headlamps and hoodie hoods seem to be unpopular wardrobe choices! 😆
I usually wear my chicken sloggers and will be switching back to insulated muck boots soon. Rooster is usually slightly weirded out by suspicious seasonal footware changes!
Non-insulated boots seen here and are currently in trusted favor:

This is Tull. She's been crouching for Henry looking around the field for suitable nesting sites. Thankfully the options are few as long as she stays inside the field boundries. Judging by past experiences here she will probalby lay in one of the nest boxes, but she is looking for other options and with Henry.
One may think, oh well just another hen getting to POL but I haven't seen an egg from this lot since March or thereabouts.
Now I know I've written on numerous occasions that I'm interested in the chickens and their eggs come a long way down the list. However, what with my recent interest in cooking better/healthier/more interesting meals and my foray into baking a few eggs would come in very handy.

Love the boots. I don't own a pair, though when I see boots on sale I try them on. None ever fit right.

My dh has a pair of leather hiking boots, essentially unworn. I have used his boots when we've gotten an unusually heavy snowfall. He's 5'5", I'm 5'3", and we wear the same shoe size. It comes in handy sometimes.

I find that if I go down a half size for boots, whether dressy or messy, the boots fit much better. Hope you don't see much occasion for wearing those hiking boots this year in heavy snowfalls, despite their being a handy fit!
This is Tull.
Could Tull be on the lookout for a walnut, or a nest site? As fuzzi said, she does look determined!

Wow half size down? That would squeeze my toes. Most of the time if I have to go anywhere it's a half size up.

For years I tried on pair after pair of cowboy boots, always wondering why people said they were so comfortable when they were not. Then one day out of nowhere, I pulled a pair of boots on and it was like magic, like they were made just for me. So don't give up.

Most of the time I have to go up half a size to get a decent fitting shoe. Boots are generally too narrow across the toes, too wide in the heel for my feet. For the last 20 years I have been wearing Skechers sneakers as they actually FIT. That's also why I am so happy with my croc shoes from Aldi's, despite them being pink ;) @Shadrach

I think the polite description for Tull is confident, although I'll accept precocious, pushy and impatient.:p
