fuzzi's Chicken Journal

FYI: my current avatar is Martha, who's not had that honor since she was brooding chicks.

"Good morning Miss Martha, are you thinking about laying an egg soon?"

Like these?

A student in the local medical school crochets these to raise money. I sent her photos of my chickens and this is what she came up with!

They're about 5" long, not too big.
Do you think you can hook me up with her? I can send pic and pay these with shipping. I'm also happy if you want to be my representative as you already have my info.

They are so cute!

I'm not big on the fluffy chicken toys but I've just bought another Sophie Allport mug. It's you lots fault for making me post a link to her site.:p
There is a public house (bar) in the Old Market part of town. It's a four story building and on the outside of the fourth floor is an old pub sign depicting a rooster. The artwork is really good. I would pay a few pounds for that or similar. I saw one like the above in a second hand/junk/antique shop a few months ago but when I went back to try and buy it it had gone.:(

I'll ask her. She's a second year medical student, distracted, so I think me emailing her might work better.

I harvested three purple top turnips this afternoon. As I washed the greens I put the stalks to the side. Then I chopped up about a cupful.

There were some greens mixed in.

I brought it out to the flock. At first they weren't sure if they liked the bits.

But the Dominiques went back and ate some.

Almost everything I offer eventually gets eaten. I had two small yellow Summer squash that shriveled in the refrigerator. I sliced them down the middle the long way and put them in the run. Meh. The next day I saw only the outer skin remaining. Someone decided that they were worth eating.

I shared the Sophia Allport link with my sister. She's enthralled, I think.

Did I share a picture of my Dala rooster?

In 1965 I went to the New York World's Fair. My parents took us to many exhibitions but one must have been from Sweden, as I came home with a little blue Dala horse. I still have it. I recently saw Dala roosters online and found one fairly cheep on eBay. He now roosts next to the DVD player, watching over the movies. ;)

They're special to me, as my grandmother was Swedish, and I was named after her.

Thank you. I understand she is busy. Of course only if she is happy to do so. I don't want to impose.
What are you looking for? Size?

She can make them any color you like.

These are about 5" long:

This one's about 3", baseball sized:

Here's what she had available when I first walked past her desk in the study area:

Share a picture of your chickens and she'll try to match it.
