Follow up on my pullets who have an open wound on their heads:

It doesn't look worse to me.

I think her wound looks smaller.

None of the other hens have wounds.

I raised the shade cloth this afternoon so the flock could get some sun.

Everyone appears active and content. Good.

And the weather is warming up, yippee!

The difference in the rooster's coloration is really obvious in that picture
Silas is very handsome. His color is wrong, though, and I don't want to use him for breeding.

I'm actively mentally planning a second hoop coop behind the first. I did it once, I should be able to build another one.

My coworker's husband bought Ron's Tundra pickup, and said if I needed anything hauled just let him know. He also has a flatbed trailer, so 16' 2x4s and 16' cattle panels would be relatively easy to haul home from TSC or Lowe's, or some other store. I want to do that soon.

I have one 50' roll of hardware cloth that I bought when the price dropped. I'm sure I'll need another. I also have a lot of 1 1/2" fence staples, 2" and 3" deck screws, but will probably need more fender washers. And zip-ties.

I have a large shade cloth that I haven't used yet, will just need enough tarp for the roost area.

So in one coop I would keep the best Sussex to breed, and in the other I would keep Silas, the Dominiques, and Esther. Esther has yellow skin, not a good choice for breeding, but she can hang out with Silas and lay eggs.

At least that's my plan.

Esther and her yellow shanks. She does have pretty plumage.

This sounds like a good plan!
Of course, we want to see the build and follow along :)

Has it warmed up a little? It hit 50F here today, so not too bad.
