Our chickens are afraid of snow🤣. Some went back to coop.

It was hard to walk on steps. I used my snow shovel that I never thought would be utilized again since we moved here.

I think we have about 4 inches. It's about 20F right now. Not expecting it to go above 32F today.

Finally got caught up with you Fuzzi! I’ve been on vacation and not online much yada yada yada…I’m so sorry for your loss, everyone has said such nice things there is nothing I can add that hasn’t been said.
I love how your chicken projects are going, that’s the healthiest thing you could do imho. :hugs

I would consider throwing a regular tarp over the hoop that extends to the ground on both sides, to reduce drafts and keep the snow out. Just as a temporary measure.
I can drop it down.

I also opened up the A-frame so they could go underneath if they wanted to.

Spent much of the day cleaning off the cars and shoveling the driveway. Even though son helped I'm beat.

I have a travel snow shovel that I purchased about 9 years ago. We drove to Connecticut for a funeral, and saw snow in the forecast. I went to a hardware store and picked out a smaller shovel so we could bring it back to NC with us.

That night it snowed 16", and we never made it to the funeral!

It's come in handy since.

Sweeties' Snow Adventure

I let my chickens out this afternoon. They really wanted to be out as usual.

Foxy and Inky: look at us totally braving the snow. Everything is totally normal.

I am even going to bite on some greens!

"Oh shi*t, Mom, I think an avalanche is happening right behind me, what do I do? What do I do? Are you just going to watch??
20250122_144812.jpg

"OK, I managed to fly here, without your help. I think I am super stuck though. I am sinking... I'm sinking "
20250122_144853.jpg

Meimei: "OK, I flew as much as I could but only managed to land between you guys, what do I do now?".
Foxy: "I have no clue! Can't you see I am stuck?"
Inky: "Oh we should never have left. Light and Poopy were smart to stay in."

30 seconds later, Meimei managed to go back to run, and I caught a video of Foxy going back.
[the video autoplays so it may have finished playing by the time you get here. Please refresh the page so the video will play from the beginning.]

I had to rescue Inky.

The end.

I used to shovel about a 50 ft x 50 ft area into a pile, until I found a hen head first stuck in the snow pile. I don't know how long she was there but was ok

I cut the zip-ties and let down the shade cloth on both long sides. Zacchaeus was alarmed and got the whole flock going. I gave them a slice of bread that I'd dropped on the floor, and all the drama was forgotten.

There's still air flow but the cloth will cut the wind.
