I had a bit of a scare today. I went out to the coop to freshen the waterers and gather eggs. I counted seven hens, and six chicks...but no Zacchaeus! I looked underneath the nests, the A-frame roost, the wheelbarrow, nothing. I was getting upset, wondering what had happened to him. I started walking around the hoop coop, and I spotted him! He'd gotten himself wedged between the outside frame of the coop and a board that forms a tunnel for SMALL chicks. Dummy!

I extracted and looked him over for any damage, he seemed okay, just a little upset. After I checked him out I held Zack with my arm and stroked the back of his neck, pulling gently on his feathers. He relaxed a little and I released him. He must have cat in his heritage, he's using up nine lives!

I mowed part of the backyard when I got home from work...

In my unlearned opinion, I believe it's 50/50.

Rahab is trying to get her bunch up on the roost. She flew up to the wheelbarrow, called them, and two attempted to follow her. One was able, the other couldn't quite get that high. So she hopped down. It was fun to watch.

Green Snake came into the coop, they DO NOT LIKE IT.

But one of the Dominiques finally got up the courage to return from the back of the coop and forage in the weeds I'd brought (mostly crabgrass).

My knowledge of Speckled Sussex is very limited, and you certainly know better than me. Still, I’d guess you’ve got 4 girls and 2 boys. Yellow and pink do look male, I agree.

Girls...I want at least three.

I might keep a boy, as backup for Zack. I kept two with Joel and Samuel, no issues.

I was thinking yellow and pink too!
