Catching up!

Look at ceramic bantam-sized egg holders I found at the swap!

Now I don't have to use a teaspoon to remove the eggs from the standard-sized egg holders. Excellent!

Sunday it rained most of the day, but between showers I pulled up one side of the sweet peas plants. Not a bad haul. I shelled, blanched, and froze about two cups of peas.

Then it rained Monday as well.

Overflow is overflowing!

One of the friends that I visited on Saturday gave me plants from her yard: Columbine, iris, yarrow, Obedient plant, and Rose of Sharon. I did some research and tried to find the best locations for them.

Not to scale, but helpful.

After I got home from work on Tuesday I was determined to transplant at least some of the plants that had been given to me.

Columbines first...they like fertile, moist soil, and partial sun...by the small shed?

I loosened the soil, which was dark, and kind of loamy. I worked in some peat moss to help with drainage.

Columbines in the ground!

Next I decided to prepare a place for the yarrow...it needs full sun, good drainage, is drought-tolerant. Middle of the backyard in that clay clod area?

You can see the elderberry on the left, but I think the yarrow will get plenty of sun for at least a few years where I have chosen. I loosened the soil, which had softened some from two days of rain, then dug out a lot of grass and weeds.

If the dirt was really hard I didn't shake it all off, but gave the clumps to the chickens, who made appreciative noises.

Somewhere I lost a cotter pin on my cart's wheel.
:barnie

My plan is to continue tomorrow, after work, digging in peat moss and compost before transplanting the yarrow.

Then I will prepare spots for the Rose of Sharon and Obedient plants...the iris should be okay for a couple more days.

PS: Milkweed

My yarrow is growing like a weed without being cared for. I need to transplant some if it elsewhere.
I've had it in a pot, purchased from TSC, and killed it in months. Meanwhile, some volunteered wild and is growing in two separate and very healthy patches in my yard!

I think I've got the old brown thumb going on, except a few exceptionally abuse tolerant indoor plants...

Rose of Sharon; the gift that keeps on giving! (I do love them, though.)
I had two planted next to the driveway (mistake) for about fifteen years, then they both just died within a year or so.

They were a great screen for my porch, but the spent blossoms stuck to my car and marred the paint.
