New rain barrels during a break in the rain, see the sun?

The ground around the house and the barrels was not soggy or flooded, just wet.

But when I stepped into the new garden...

...I almost lost my clog!

Second elderberry might need some more peat moss worked in, or I could break any clay layer underneath using a rebar. I'm going to check when I get home this evening.

Everything else seemed to be ok, just wet.

And I picked more beans!

I did notice one thing after all that rain, something that was different from the past...the ground area from the driveway into the backyard is usually puddly, muddy. It wasn't. And then I realized that the downspout closest to the driveway now empties into rain barrels, and then away from the house with a hose. Woo!

I never thought we’d be seeing atmospheric rivers in the Carolinas. 😞
We live in a swamp, we need all the land we can get! (obscure movie reference)

Seriously, it's pretty wet here, annual average of 48" of precipitation. I've lived in eastern NC since 1999, and through several hurricanes that dropped at least 12" of rain in a few hours.

It's why we're so green. And the 🦟 are so ferocious!

Yesterday we got another 1/4" of rain, not as bad.

The water drained around the elderberry!
:yesss:

It was still pretty soft where I almost lost my clog, but firm elsewhere.

This is my rain barrel overflow extension, a soaker hose. It worked, the second rain barrel was still high, but didn't overflow.

My transplants are all looking better.

These are obedient plants. They were totally wilted, so I just laid them on the ground and put some soil over their roots. See them perking up?

A coworker gave me some overripe cherry tomatoes.

They were appreciated.

Two of the hens snatched a tomato and ran, to enjoy without being bothered. :gig
